I upgraded to the new faster Pacific Data PE and the speed increase is very noticeable. Didn't do any timings though. If you have 4meg (I don't), they say that it will double buffer and be even faster. Sounds like it'll be formatting page N, while page N-1 is being transferred to paper. For Jeff: Another difference between the HP and Pacific Data that I just remembered is that I think the HP won't let you switch between PCL and Postscript without turning off the printer and removing the cartridge. The Pacific Data lets you do the switch using front panel switches. Tom

I have 3 megs in my printer….didn't know about that double-buffering deal, I'll have to think about going for the full 4 megs…. J.R.

I've been tempted to upgrade to 4 megs too. I suspect I'd get more productivity per dollar by getting an ICD adSpeed for my A1000 than by getting the extra printer memory. If you do upgrade to 4 meg., let us know how much speed gain you get. Tom

Sure will. Funny you should mention AdSpeed, that's my next purchase, the minute it hits the streets! My A2000 is SCREAMING for SPEED!! J.R.

JR, have you checked out what will and what will not work with AdSpeed?

No, so far it there has been no announcement as to what will and won't work with it. I HOPE everything will. I called ICD the other day, they said they were going to start shipping a few weeks ago, but somebody wanted to change something so they pulled it for a few more weeks. Here's hoping they SQUASH all the bugs before it hits the streets! J.R.

It MAY not work with things like bridgeboards, but I don't know.

JR, ADSpeed has been available for several weeks now. My dealer got some in right after Christmas. The speed up in many cases was quite impressive. -sja

Details, please! Who is this dealer and how is it?

RJ, The dealer is The Computer Room in Englewood, CO. I don't know too many details about it (as I wasn't interested in it) but a former business partner of mine was real high on it after seeing it at CES and bought the first one that came into town.
