Does anyone know where DIRECTORY OPUS v2.1 (or higher) can be
purchased in the U.S.A. ???
i dont know where you can get Directory Opus, but if you wait until SID 2.0
comes out you wont have to spend as much and you will get a much much more
powerful directory utility. Beta testing should start in a few weeks on SID
2.0
I am a registered user of SID 1.6 it's the BEST until I saw DIRECTORY
OPUS v2.01 demo incredible!
I have tried repeatedly to call Timm Martin's BBS in Largo FL (I am in
Venice FL) to no avail. I've seen him log onto serveral local BBS's here
in FL and when I say hello and that I use SID and think that it's great, he
never replys and never comes back on the BBS. My local dealer has tried to
contact him again to no avail.
I think that we have talked about SID here before and you were going to
get back to me viva E-MAIL on Timm Address so I could write him about SID,
again you never got back to me. Therefore, I have been wondering about
SID's future. I would like to see Timm do a v2.0, in fact long ago I gave
him some ideas on new features that he liked, but the my recent attempts at
contacting him has left me with doubts.
How about some clarity on the subject via E-MAIL?
At this time Timm's BBS is only up from Fri night at 10pm to Sat 8am and
from Sat 10pm to Sun 8am. When SID 2.0 is released then the board will be
up more often. I will email Timms address to ya.
It seems that whenever I actually send these guys money for programs, they
immediately stop development. Keith Young's "Access!" and SID 1.06 are
prime examples. Never got a "thank-you" note from either, either. (Hey,
there's an echo in here!)
But, you gotta love Bill Hawes…he's kept Conman up to date, even adding
features for 2.0. I'm user #161 and proud of it!
While it's true that Keith has stopped development on Access!, Timm
Martin has not stopped development on SID. A 2.0 version of SID is due to
go into beta test shortly.
Keith stopped development on Access! for a couple of reasons. The
primary reason was that, for a long time, shareware payments from Access
was his only source of income. He got tired of eating dry corn flakes and
got a "real" job (programming the Amiga) that has kept him VERY busy the
last couple of years — now he can afford milk to go on those corn flakes
<grin>.
Keith's schedule is now starting to slow down enough that, if he cuts
down on his sleep from 6 hours a nite to 4, he can fit in a few hours a
week to work on a telecom program for the Amiga. His thinking is that it
would take about as much work to bring Access! up to 2.0 compatibility than
it would to start from scratch on a new term program. He has started that
development. How it comes along and when/if it will be finished depends
upon his work schedule.
Also, re: the "no thank-you note" — Since Access! was distributed in
full — nothing withheld until the shareware payment came in, Keith was of
the attitude that the shareware payment was your "thank-you" to him. Maybe
he should have sent out "You're Welcome" notes?
Timm Martin has been working very very hard on SID 2.0 and it is very close
to Beta right now. I think the shareware fee for SID 1.06 was very very
reasonable and the program is worth many times the shareware fee, I use it
every single day. Yes its been awhile between SID updates but 2.0 is errr
has been totally rewritten and is by far much more powerful than 1.06. IF
you sent in your shareware fee for SID then there was some sort of problem
because every person who registers SID should have received a letter in the
mail with your user number.
