HI Betty. I noticed that someone was having trouble with Uedit ( the new upload ver 26H ). I to am having trouble. It won't work at all. I've used 26g ok on WB1.3. I now have WB2.04 & downloaded Uedit26H the other day. I put the file where it said to put them. Called Uedit & low & behold GURU time. 80000003 same as a few other programs. Get the same with PenPal 1.3 but then so does everyone else I know who tries it on WB2.04. ( new penpal on order ). Any ideas would be wellcome. Have 3meg A500, BodegaBay, Malabi hard card + 105meg Quantum hard drive. I run ARQ, AWP, in the background + kd_req & Amenu. I have turned them all off & even booted using Floppy disk. Uedit always fails the some. Regards from Nick. Regards Nick Whapp!ng from the UK.

Nick, I wish I could help you, but I can't. I've never used Uedit at all, except to test the versions uploaded here before approving them. I just don't know what could be causing your guru – unless it is time for yet another update to the program. Betty

Betty, I'll grab a copy of the file from here and check it. I use UEdit all the time (have a release copy, but will download the shareware version). My 3000 with 2.04 is instrumented pretty well. I've chased bugs for Rick before, maybe we can find something simple.

Vic – I received, and posted with Rick's permission, the bug fixed version of UES. He bone-headed the version number, calling the fixed version 2.6h. I spoke with him about this and he said, as an expedient, to zap the version number from lowercase 'h' to an uppercase 'H'. Not much differentiation, but I hope enough. – Nelson …

Nelson, yes…VERY odd…since 2.6H is the spelling-check version

Vic – I wasn't aware of that… he burped that too then. The 'H' vs 'h' was a quickie we did over the phone when I pointed out that the corrected version had the same rev as the problem version. Gack! – Nelson …

It is my understanding that Rick Stiles has located the problem. Although I am not the normal path that Rick takes to get his UEDIT files uploaded to CIS, I expect to be receiving an update RSN (real soon now). If it has not been uploaded by then I will upload it myself. The problem is with the display of the SHAREWARE message, which is coded at the end of the Config!. Even normal, registered, UEDIT 2.6h pukes when it tries to automatically display the message. An obvious fix would be to remove (or comment out) the getkey command which invokes it. To his credit, and in spite of the fact that he is working on the next version of UEDIT, Rick saw this problem as a serious bug that must be understood and squashed. Only machines with the 68000 CPU have the problem and then only under AmigaDOS 2.04. Machines with the 68020, 68030, and 68040 CPU's apparently do not crash. And machines running AmigaDOS 1.3 do not crash. – Nelson …

Many thanks Nelson, for that info. That explains why the info in the Libs say that it works under 1.3 & 2.04. With the A500s just starting to change to the new 2.04, the problem has just come to light. I spent 3 hours tonight, looking through the config fills etc, to see if I could see any file errors. Also tried from WB1.3 disk to WB ROM with the same results. As I'm still waiting for a multistart to drop through my letterbox, I'm stuck with 2.04. I'll have to register with Rick, as I loved the "g" version "My favourite editor", but have been waiting to test it with WB2.04. Once again, many thanks. Will download the corrected version as soon as it's in the libs. Regards Nick Whapp!ng from the UK.
