Hi,
Does anybody have the Archive Python 1.3 Gig. DAT Tape Drive working with
their Amiga ? If you do could you please tell me what controller you are
using. I have the ICD Advantage 2000 and it does not like the drive.

A Little Note – via Whap!
I have it hooked up to my 3000 SCSI port. I have no problems as long
as I use new DATA tapes and not audio tapes for my backups. A nice little
tape drive. <grin>
Could you please describe your setup? I am looking for a good tape system,
and I haven't given much consideration to DAT drives, but you sound
satisfied. Is this specifically a computer peripheral, or is it a regular
DAT deck? Thanks in advnace for the info!!!!!

I got an Archive (i think Python) DAT drive, 5.25" half-height
(although they now have a 3.5" model) that I stuck in my tower where I keep
all my big drives. It is connected to the SCSI bus via a common cable to
the back of my 3000. Any box with a power supply and front panel cutout
should do. I had it mounted inside of my 2500 for awhile before I got my
3000. I use software written by Larry Phillips (SYSOP here in the Amiga
Forums) for Metadigm, Inc. You can ask either Larry or Vic Wagner
(Metadigm) for more information on that. They inhabit the Amigatech
Conference area around midnight (PST) most nights. btw… This is a DAT
data drive, and not a reworked audio drive.

When I got it, the price was $1750, but that was awhile ago. I've
seen it under $1500 (Hard Drives International) in Computer Shopper and
other magazine ads.

Yes, it is a bit pricey for casual use, but if you have a gigabyte to
back up, you can't beat it.

Yes, I have one. Plugged into the external connector on the 3000.
Could you also describe your DAT tape setup? I'm interested in getting
one, and would like to know how you use it. Thanks!

There isn't much to say, it's an Archive 3.5" Python plugged to the
external SCSI port. Every morning at 0530 (thanks to NazCron), all the
disks I can access from my machine are written to tape

scheduling program that runs your backup software?

NazCron is the scheduling program (nifty program, go find it).

i don't have the archive python, but i do have a cbm a3070. it didn't
like the icd host adapter, either. so if you're wondering about whether
its the card or the drive, i'd suggest it's the card. i bought a gvp
combo, which has a scsi host adapter on the board, it solved the problem.

What program are you using with the GVP/A3070 combination? I've found that
their (GVP's) TapeStore sort of works, but that any of the TAPE: device
drivers will cause the SCSI to lock up if a buffer more than 256k is used.

i use ami-back, which has to be run in synchronous mode due to high dma
activity (the tape, the disk, and my overscanned iinterlaced wb screen).
if their tapestore has some sort of synchronous mode, or a selector for not
using reselection, try that.
