Help,
After Installing the ADos 2.0 software, the IDE disk just causes a failed
boot . I must override and boot from the 2.0 floppy Then mount the Hard
Disk manually.
I am going to re-partition the Hard Disk anyway after backing it up under
2.0 but was wondering why it won't boot after following the 2.0 Install
program and using the Standard 2.0 startup-sequence. The way CBM
describes it you can use your previously formatted Hard Disk but would
benefit only from the reformatting. It's not supposed to be required.
This is an IDE-40 with 105 meg quantum ide harddisk. Prima type install
ation.

You got our user number wrong, but I found the message anyway. Here's what
you need to do:
1-Make a copy of the ICD installation disk.
2-Delete the file "icddiskide.device" from the root directory of it.
3-Run the format program, select the drive, and click on SAVE.
That will take care of your booting problems.

First, Thanks for the instantaneous 'Week-end' support. I certainly
couldn't have fixed this problem with the literature I had on hand.
Just a public comment about the terrific support available from ICD. I have
the greatest confidence in purchasing your products. And for myself,
relatives, and friends I might add that our total of products is up to:
Advantage 2000, ADIDE, Adspeed, FFV and Adram540.
Incidentally a few weeks ago I wrote of a problem with my FFV and genlock.
The actual problem turned out to be a blown Pico fuse on the 2000 mother
board which blocked the 12 Volts necessary to drive the genlock on the
Video port. (I knew the schematics for the 2000 I purchased would come in
handy someday. $2.00 fix with the fuse and no outside service needed)
To add a few comments to your suggestions for the IDE drive booting under
2.0 I would only add: (Your instructs are in CAPS.)
1 – MAKE A COPY OF THE ICD INSTALLATION DISK.
2 – Boot the computer from DF0:Workbench2.0 while holding down LMB.
Failure
to do so results in continuous Guru with a 1.3 Boot partition active.
3 – Using the ICD disk issue the 'ICDMOUNT' command to bring up the HD
partitions.
4 – DELETE THE FILE "ICDDISKIDE.DEVICE" FROM THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF IT.
(it being the icd installation disk)
5 – RUN THE FORMAT PROGRAM, SELECT THE DRIVE, AND CLICK ON SAVE.

One more question. Now that the IDE drive is booting fine under 2.0. Is
there really any need to recreate the exact same partitions with the
ICD_format program and then reinstalling all of my backed up data.
Commodore's manual says to reformat the drive under 2.0 to get max
performance under the new FFS but since there isn't any formatting done
with the icd_format program, "Reformatting is not recommended on IDE
drives" , am I done at this point ?
Is there any performance gain to be made from my present situation ?
You haven't cleared the existing file structure, though the new FFS is
being used. Since part of the new files system is the way things are
arranged on the disk (I think), you will probably see some improvement if
you re-high-level-format the partition. You can do this with the AmigaDOS
"format" command.
