#MicroLaser and AMAX

Has anyone had any luck getting a TI MicroLaser PS to work with AMAX? If
so, I would be interested in any tips.

I'm not sure that this is really helpful, but part of your problem may be
with the Laserprep file that the MAC adds as a prolog to its' postscript
files. What specifically is your problem? Do you have a printer driver for
the TI MicroLaser?
I've recently come across a set of UNIX files that appear to alter the
laserprep file in such a way to remove the offending parts of the Laserprep
prolog–the offending parts seem to be stretch and /smooth4 and something
else at the beginning of the Laserprep file that I don't know enough about
yet.
Unfortunately, I don't understand C enough to convert these UNIX C files to
SAS/C to try this on my system (I'm using Post -> HPLJIII ).
Let me know a bit more specifically what your problems are, and I'll see if
i have any suggestions. If you''d like to look at the C sources for the
prepfix program (that's the name for the unix version above), I could post
it.
Are you able to print anything at all with the TI from AMAX? How does it
work with postscript stuff from the AMiga side?

I have no trouble printing PostScript to the TI from the Amiga or VAX.
However, when printing from AMAX, nothing happens. The printer goes busy
and then waits. I suspect that the LaserPrep is the problem, but the TI
documentation says to use Apple's LaserWriter driver. They do not give a
replacement LaserPrep. However, they assume that you will be talking
through the Appletalk port, which is not true in this case.
I would be interested in looking at the prepfix source. If it is useful, I
can convert it to SAS C and repost it for you.

I have an NEC model 90 Postscript Printer. I too tried to
printwith u using Amax, I could not. After calling ReadySoft I was told
that Amax can support Lasers only Dot Matrix type printers, I was told
that with Amax II+ soon to be released the problem would be fixed. I hope
this information will help you. Tony
As I understand it, AMAX II+ is the add on card that supplies true Mac
compatible AppleTalk (and serial) ports. As I have an A1000, that is not
of much interest to me. What I am looking for is a way to print using the
serial port. I don't mind using Alt-K when printing and then dumping the
resulting Postscript file (as their manual says to do). It just doesn't
work. Oh well.
BTW – Amax II+ has been RSN for about two years.

Gee, you may be onto something when you say that they assume you'll be
using Appletalk. Try printing PS to a file and add a CTRL-D to the
beginning & end of the file, then send it to the printer.

I've already tried it. It doesn't help. The next step is to fire up a
comm program and see if the printer is sending any error messages back.
I have used a postscript cartridge (pacificpage) on a IIp through the
serial port of a mac. they have a different driver that allows for comm
other than appletalk. I have no experience with amax, but I thought this
may be of some value.

Sounds like a good idea. PS error messages are perplexing on their own
