#LZH ARC FILES???

Hello, I'm a PC weenie who just downloaded a file (VJARGN.LZH) from AmigaUser forum which was mentioned in the January 1992 edition of CIS magazine. My knowledge of Amigas is limited (but I owned a C128 for a number of years if that helps). I'm familiar with .ARC and .ZIP files but not .LZH files. In other words, I don't know how to uncrunch VJARGN.LZH. I looked in Lib 16 and there are a couple uncrunchers there but the text of a couple suggests (to a non-Amiga user) that LZH uncrunchers might work only on the Amiga. Help. If I just want to uncrunch VJARGN.LZH (and would rather not download a megafile that will let me crunch .LZH files) what should I download and from what library? Thanks much, John (from Guam)

You should download LHARC.EXE from library 16. If you need help using it, please ask. I think you should be able to figure it out, though…extracting files is similar to what you do with ARC. Steve

John, If what you want to do is uncrunch an .LZH file on a MS-DOS machine, GO LOTUSA and download LHA212.EXE (self-extracting) from library #1. There may be a newer version but that's the one I use when I have to. (no amiga at work) Lou

John, I get the impression that you need a de-archiver that will unpack the file on your PC. You need to find LHARC. I know you could find a PC version on IMBCOM, and probably in several other IBM forums. Matter of fact, I think I remember seeing it in the Genealogy forum, even (GO ROOTS). Betty

Bill, MSDOS certainly does (not the same wording though). MSDOS requires that you give an executable file a specific filename extension (.COM,.EXE or .BAT). Try executing some other file, or renaming a text file with a .exe extension and watch what happens. Now…run that file…and watch your MSDOS computer lock up and die. Don

AAAH yes! Abort Retry Ignore – if that fails.. CTRL ALT DEL. I've never actually had to switch off except when trying to TYPE an executable file. Bill – via Whap!
