WB2 Coupon Upgrade
10 messages in this thread
The following info may be of interest to some of you, especially if you
bought A2x00s during a certain period of time in 1990 (and maybe into
'91) and were told that WB2 would be provided as a warrenty upgrade.
I've waited (more or less) patiently while member after member here
exclaimed with glee "I got it!" but a month ago decided to take matters
into my own hands, sort of. Called my dealer who had predicted (not
promised) the upgrade — he had a memo from CBM which described a
coupon-exchange method (A2000 owner gives coupon to dealer, gets free
ROM, installation, and software, and dealer gets reimbursed by CBM) but
he had not seen any coupons at all, and had heard nothing more from
CBM. I called CBM, got (quickly and politely) shunted to a
service/warrenty person who would only say "Send your request to [the
usual CBM address] with a copy of your purchase or delivery dox." Which
I did about 10 days ago. Today's mail brought a numbered half-page
document which in part says "…entitles…original purchaser of an
A2000, A2000HD or A2500 to a ROM upgrade to Amiga DOS Release 2.04."
"…valid until January 31, 1992." The accompanying letter is a non-
personalized letter dated December 23, 1991, signed by Jim Reeder,
VP/Customer Satisfaction, and, typed on the side, _another_ message in
essence extending the expiration date indefinitely. (Which is handy,
since every dealer seems way-way backordered on 2.04 kits.) This one's
signed by Gail Fleisher, Admin Asst VP/Customer Sat.
So, if you've been waiting patiently for this warrenty upgrade, and not
heard anything, be advised that you may NOT, unless you initiate a
direct contact with CBM.
By the way, DID anyone receive notice coupons without asking? Anyone
see or hear about the "window" of time to accomplish this? Methinks CBM
has again misjudged how to deal with The Loyal Following, by not
initiating contact with those of us who bought 2000's during the period
when the free upgrade was being predicted. Oh, well….

This doesn't surprise me at all.
Commodore has NEVER used their regristration mailing lists to any great
extend. It is an opportunity that they have always choosed to ignore.

They don't ignore the lists, they sell them for profit!
