#386 Bridgeboard?

Anyone hear of a rumored 386 Bridgeboard supposedly being available the
first quarter of 1992? My local Amiga dealer swears he got this info
straight from Commodore. Anyone care to comment?

Yea, I have heard about this beast also. Will belive it when I see it tho.
I have also heard that it's in Europe now….but no one on any of the nets
eems to have one yet.
Lets hope they have fixed all the bugs that the old BB's had, included
support for VGA and the serial port this time. It also needs to be thiner
then the 286 BB if its to fit inside the A3000 and still leave room for a
card in the viedo-slot. All in all im taking a wait and see attitued
toward this thing.

And wait and wait and wait!
If I had a dollar everytime someone said that about Commodore and the
Amiga, I'd have enough money to buy a majority share of stock and inject
some common sense into the executive mindset at Commodore! Why they do the
things they do (like raising the price of the 2000 from the xmas price of
$999 to $2000) is beyond me. They must be getting kickbacks from somewhere
to take one step forward and five steps back! How else can you explain
everyone in the world telling them how bad their marketing is, etc., and
they still keep on shooting themselves in the feet! They seem to feel that
they ARE doing the right things and because 'they' run Commodore, everyone
else is wrong. <Dream sequence…I'm at their latest board meeting….I
politely listen to the strategy they are following…I then tell them what
I think could be, and should be, done to improve sales(that SHOULD get
their attention, but I doubt it) and when I get no response…I line them
all up and poke their eyes and slap all their faces in true Three Stooges
flair (NYUC NYUC NYUC!). Ahhhh…I feel just a LITTLE better now!
Who knows, maybe when I take the trip down to NYC from MA to the WOC show
in April I can live out my fantasy…er I mean find out if the 386 will be
a reality! Or if it is available at the show. (AHHAA HA HA HA Haaaa)

Heh….A sad but true statment…I myself have often wondered if CBM was
around so that various board members amuse themselves by seeing just how
f-ed up they can make there company.
When and *IF* the 386 BB comes out, no dought it will be far less then what
it should be. ie: prob. no built-in VGA, or access to the serial port, or
full speed access to the Amiga hard drives, floppies and Ram. It will prob.
take up so much room, that it will also block the viedo slot in an A3000
like the current 286 does etc. etc.
Basicly for me, this is there last chance to come out with a viable ms-dos
compatible card for the A3000, findind it lacking I shall be forced due to
business reasons to get myself one of those wonderfly handy dandy 386
cloans. No, I shall not abandon my A3000 for one, I love it to much
despite what CBM is trying to do to it. It 386 will live in the same room,
but never share the fondness I have for the Amiga's real OS, wonder GUI and
all the little things that go into making it the worlds most fun computer
to own.
Sigh….someone wake me when a real company buys the Amiga.

Keep in mind that CBM is nothing but a marketing company. They
don't make anything. IF they screw up Amiga sales in the US (since that's
all they are…the US marketing arm of Commodore)…they'ed essentially be
screwing up their own jobs because the only other thing they have to sell
is the C=64 and CDTV.

Don, an Amiga marketdroid told me (at a recent show in NYC) that CBM is not
trying to mass market CDTV here anymore, only to small, very specialized
areas. Hence, almost no marketing of it here.
That leaves them with the 64 …

Ok…then that makes my statement even stronger. If anyone thinks
that CBM (the US Marketing arm of Commodore) is trying to dump the Amiga,
or anything like that…then they must also think that CBM is attempting to
put itself out of business.

Comment??? Egadz… it's long past time for a 486. That's MY comment.
Any progress is better than none, however.
I must say this is the first I've heard of anything coming down an
"official channel", the way you're reporting it.

Thats right Ben….he claims it came straight from Commodore and he is a
trusted Amiga dealer in the area.
I guess we'll have to wait and see…God I hate saying that! <See my reply

A Commodore exec mentioned a 386 Bridgeboard publically at AmiExpo in
Oakland last year. I got the impression that it was "on the way." I don't
know what's holding it up. (Perhaps Commodore is waiting on the 486 to
become entrenched as the standard first?)
