AUTODESK SHIPS AutoCAD RELEASE 11 FOR IRIS Indigo,
SILICON GRAPHICS' RISC PC
Chicago – February 24, 1992 – AutoCAD, the computer industry's most popular
computer-aided design (CAD) software, is now available for Silicon Graphics
Inc.'s IRIS Indigo computers, Autodesk announced today at the National
Design Engineering Show. The new product offers a full implementation of
the power and features of AutoCAD Release 11. Current and prospective
AutoCAD customers can obtain the English-language version through
Authorized Autodesk Dealers and Distributors worldwide.
Running under IRIX(TM) 4.0.1 operating system, this new version of AutoCAD
Release 11 features an X-based Motif user interface, superior networking
capabilities (including a "floating" network license manager), and AME
(Advanced Modeling Extension), AutoCAD's fully integrated solid-modeling
option.
"IRIS Indigo is an excellent platform providing superb graphics," said John
Lynch, co-general manager of Autodesk's AutoCAD Division. "It complements
Silicon Graphics' high-end visualization tools nicely and should appeal to
designers and engineers needing the speed of a RISC-based architecture."

IRIS Indigo is the first high-performance, color, RISC personal computer to
deliver 2D and 3D graphics, DAT-quality audio, and video, beginning at
US$7,995. The system supports up to 1.2 GB of internal mass storage, 96MB
of RAM, and a dual-headed display configuration.

Through its dealer program, Silicon Graphics will be supplying software
that allows AutoCAD customers to take advantage of the advanced 3D
capabilities of IRIS Indigo. The software provides real-time pan and zoom
of large drawings, an interactive 3D shaded viewer, a visual configuration
manager for choosing new colors on the fly, and the capability to do
real-time walk-through animations.
Features of AutoCAD Release 11 for IRIS Indigo include multiple-session
digitizer support; log-file support for recording command input; and a null
display capability that allows AutoCAD to run in the current shell window,
without creating separate graphics or text windows.
AutoCAD customers enjoy full compatibility across the entire AutoCAD
product line; any file created with AutoCAD Release 11 can be used on any
other operating system/machine type supported by AutoCAD without requiring
time-consuming translations, conversions, or recompilations.
The suggested retail price of AutoCAD Release 11 for IRIS Indigo computers
in the United States is US$3,500. AME has a suggested retail price of
US$495. Canadian and other international prices for Autodesk products and
