Has anyone heard anything about the Bridgeboard accelerator from Atop ? Has anyone heard from Hypermedia Concepts lately, I can't get them to reply to my calls. Thanks in advance for any info. Andrew

Andrew… I've seen messages from several people who have installed the ATOP 386/20 accelerator from ATOP. Everyone seems to be very pleased. Marion Deland, editor of the CROSSINGS newsletter has picked one up, and has promised a full review in her next edition… might be worth ordering the Feb and March editions (better yet… subscribe: 12 monthly issues for $40: 212-369-8131). She gas already reported a Norton SI rating of 20.7, but says others have achieved 27. Michael ….from the north coast

Im wondering if this thing will someone cure the problem the 286 BB has when trying to run Windows 3.0 in Standard mode. From what I hear it will not run windows 3.0 in standard mode due to some bug inthe 286 BB's dule-ported ram or gate arrey or something like that..could this 386 somehow fix this problem, or not? Tim

Tim: Nope… the problem with running windows in std mode is inherent in the 286BB from CBM… since the ATOP unit simply modifies the CBM BB, it continues to exhibit the same flaw (ie: it's not a flaw in the ATOP unit). Michael ….from the north coast

Tim, I have had the ATOP installed for over five months now and have had no problems with it thus far. I have had the Multimedia Windows 3.0 running on my system since October when it was first released. It runs just fine in both Standard and 386 Enhanced modes. Wing Commander and Links both play reasonably well too. I posted my first impressions of the ATOP board in the Bridgeboard section several months ago in which I posted several benchmarks showing the ATOP to perform the same as any 20mhz clone. I also have a CD-ROM drive which I switch between the IBM & Amiga sides so I can run both Amiga/CDTV titles and IBM/MPC titles (and Mac CD-ROMs as well, under A-Max). -sun

Michael, I posted several benchmarks for the ATOP board several months ago when I gave my initial review of the board. The benchmarks are meaningless by themselves. The Norton SI rating you get depends in the version of Norton Utilities you use. An older Norton version 4.5 gives the rating of 20.7. The latest Norton Utilities version 6.0 gives a rating of 14.2. -sun
