I have a little problem with brush maps on imagine. Is there any way to put a 24 bit brush map onto an object? Whenever I try to do this I just get empty space. Randy.

The problem with 24 bit brush maps is that they consume lots of memory. If you're getting empty space where the brush should be, my guess is that you don't have enough RAM for the brush. I use them on my machine and have had no problems. Pete

I thought that might be the problem but was expecting a "Out Of Memory" warning. I guess it does sort of make sense though. Six megs and still not enough… Randy.

As a matter of fact, Imagine translates all brushes into 24-bit when stored internally. Blaq!

Ok, thanks for the info. Later…. Randy.

I know, isnt' that a PAIN! (geez, just trying to do a stencil in Imagine gets memory expensive!) But I suppose it bought them some flexibility? –jp–seattle–

Do you have any problems mapping any other kinds of iffs? Others have mentioned the problem of running out of memory but Imagine converts all brushes to 24-bit (internally). If you think you are running out of memory I would suggest you limit the resolution of the brush map you are working with, reduce it with TAD or AD-PRO to a lower resolution , you will probably be able to get away with less resolution. I have an A-3000 with 6 megs and I am able to use 24-bit brush maps all the time, including resolutions of 768*482, just keep the amount of complexity low and you should have no problem. Let us know what happens.

Thats one of the few instances where I have run out of memory with my setup (The same as yours!!). Plus at the same time I was running a BBS in the background that took up about 3-400k of mem. I took the BBS down and low and behold I had enough memory. Oh well, next time…. Randy.

hello anthony, I also have a 3000 but with 10 meg, and I have a project I'm playing around with that always runs out of memory. You see the thing of it is that I have two spheres, one inside the other, the inner one is a light source with a iff filter map of some diamond-shape holes, while the outer one has an iff filter map of squares. I can render and animate as long a I don't use trace, I don't know if you've tried nested filter-mapped objects, if you do try it please let me know if it works. Other wise I'll probable send the whole project to impulse and let them figure it out. oops thanks matt
