Steve, I received my first Nautilus disk, via subscription. Volume 2-2.
Install worked fine, but when I try to start it from the icon which points
to the Nautilus directory, I get a UAE. When I double click the startup.tbk
in the setup directory on the CDROM, all runs fine. When I try to create a
note, I get a "cannot create note on F:\…"-F: is my \CDROM drive, and I
guess because the program has started from the CD, it tries to write its
files there. Can you help me?

At what point do you get the UAE? What video card are you using? How much
memory does it (the video card) have? Had you used the Intro previously
and, if so, did you let NAUTILUS perform the Startup book upgrade when you
ran NSETUP.EXE?

Steve, the UAE is immediate after double click on startup icon. ATI
Graphics Ultra is the card with 1 Meg ram for Windows, and 512K ram for
VGA. The install program was done from scratch upon receiving the Feb 2-2
Volume. What baffles me is the fact it DOES run when double clicking on
startup from the CDROM directory, but that disallows writing notes for
saving to be sent for the linkup. I only get the immediate UAE when running
from a directory on my hard drive.

Let me do some testing on my machine at work (it has an Ultra) on Monday
and I'll get back to you.

I spoke to Kate who is also looking into the problem. We can't figure out
why launching from the hard drive can possibly be different from the launch
on the CDROM. Drivers should not be the difference.

Ok, I've got a thought. First, I'm going to make an assumption (and you'll
have to correct me if I'm wrong) that you had an Intro disc before getting
Vol2_2. If this is the case, my guess would be that you installed Vol2_2
to a different path or that it didn't completey overwrite the previous
installation and that there are files in your path from the Intro.
This only matters because we received a minor upgrade to ToolBook (to 1.51)
and provided the new runtime along with the new DLLs on Vol2_2.
Enough wind, my suggestion would be to remove all references to NAUTILUS
etc from your path (and even delete all NAUTILUS etc directories from your
hard drive if you want) then reinstall from Vol2_2. If my previous
assumption and guess are correct, this should correct the problem.

Steve, I already erased all references to Nautilus before installation. And
the SAME problem presented itself when I ran the Intro disk 4 months
ago…on my old 286 machine. I ended up running Intro from the CDROM like
now. Now I have a 486-33, same problem. It wouldn't be badto run it from
the CDROM if you could figure out a way for the files I create in notes to
be saved to the hard drive instead of an attempt to save to the ROM. This
is a perplexing problem. I even copied the entire setup directory from the
ROM to the hard drive and tried that. No luck. The problem appears when I
launch toolbk.exe, immediate UAE. But when I launch the Toolbk.exe from the
CD, I get the usual prompt to click on a .TBK first. Help!!
I'll try another thing, to check and see if ANY files from the old Intro
setup directory ended up ANYWHERE on my hard drive, especially in the WIN3
directory. I doubt it, cause Intro did the same thing.
Steve, nice talking with you today. Tried everything, even reinstalled
another win3 in another directory to see if there might be something wrong
with my installation. All to no avail. The original TBOOK.exe 1.0 runs
fine. The Intro and 2.2 disk tbook continues to give me immediate UAEs. I
cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on, since the program
WILL run from the ROM. I checked the association for .TBK files and it is a
ok in the WIN.INI file. Look as if I will have to run Nautilus from the ROM
and NOT be able to link, unless we can find a way to write to the hard
drive with notes.
I am willing to try anything to see what is going on, if you have any other
sugggestions. The fact that I have a program that runs fine from the CDROM
but not from my hard drive defies my imagination.
