#NEC CDR-73 Questions

Hello Everyone, ….I NEED ADVICE,
1. What is the difference between the CDR-73 & CDR-73m?
2. Mac Zone offers the CDR-73 7 CD gallery for $739.
Is this a fair price?
3. Would the CDR-36 bundle be as suitable for home use such as,
High School & College studies, games and general entertainment?
$499 VS $739 ….500 VS 300 Milliseconds ….a $240 difference
4. Has anyone played the game of WARLOCK on CD?
I'm using a Mac SI with 5 Megs if that helps any.
1. The "M" drives are faster.
2. $739 is a good price for the 73 Gallery. List price for it is $1000.
3. If you can go without lunches, or something, and get the faster drive,
you will never regret it. If you get the slower drive, then every time you
use it, you will wish you had gone for the faster one.
Do you know the actual specs on the 72 vs. 72M? I think it may be an acess
time of 310 vs. 280, does that sound right? Also, I too am interested in
the NEC 73 gallery, but I want to make certain the drive is MPC compatible
for future QuickTime products. Do you know if the 72 is, or is that what
the "M" refers to? Thanks,

Yes, the 72M and 82M have access times of 280ms. The "M" indicates that the
drive is MPC compliant, so those without the M are not.
Thanks for the information. If the access times for the 72M and 82M are
the same, what is the difference and what is the 73? Thanks,

My eyes must have blurred on me. It's 73M/83M, not 72/82. The 73M is an
external drive, and the 83M is an internal.
The new NEC drive has be chnged to work better with Multimedia. I have no
experience with either version, but based on test results in byte, would
NOT get a drive which is not MPC compatible for the MAC. I"ve been using a
Hitachi CDR3650 (in external case) and CDR1750S on my LC. The faster drive
makes a big difference in Wait times. Sys 7 is already slow, a slow drive
can mean long waits to find things or load files. The Max is already Multi
media, sound files may tend to bread up with drives which can't keep the
flow of data smooth. (bread->break up) Regards- Tom
