Since the PC_PREFS thing is broken, is it possible for someone to EMAIL to
me their copy of 'ABoot.CTRL'?
I have a hard-card instaled on the BridgeBoard side, but since I upgraded
to AmigaOS Release 2, I can't access that device. I can boot from a floppy,
but there seems to be an address contention somewhere.
I believe this would temporarily solve my problem, at least until a newer
Janus is released…
Can anyone help me out here? I'd need the standard settings, with COLOR and
MONO both set for use. Thanks!

what you need to do is run enforcer before binddrivers in your
startup-sequence. Or set cup with no databurst
That should take care of your problem in getting your drive to boot.

Yeah, 'Enforcer QUIET' will allow me to get the Bridge up and running, but
the HardCard (controller part, any way) seems REAL confused…
I have a 68030 equipped Amiga 2000 with AmigaOS 2.04 installed. The A2286
BridgeBoard has the default 1.2 meg floppy drive and a PLUS HardCard (which
worked fine before 2.04 moved in). In my Startup-Sequence the first stuff
is…
set-patch…
Enforcer…
BindDrivers…
.
.
.
and so on…
When I get around to opening a PC Window (which happens just fine, thanks),
the boot process has returned a message that states…
1701(B)–Controller #0 Error
..which the PLUS HardCard manual says the HardCard thinks there's another
(built-in) hard-disk controller, similarly jumpered for drive C:, which
there is NOT.
I've switched every jumper I can find on the BridgeBoard, as well as the
single jumper on the PLUS HardCard, to no avail. It still wont boot, or
even recognize the HardCard.
I -DO- remember that my BridgeBoard -USED TO- have a bent pin (ie not
connected) on the lower sandwich-connector, which I 'fixed' a long time
ago. Mean anything? I an't remember now which one it was, or I'd 'unfix'
it, and try that.
Woe is me! Anyone have a similar set-up? Any answers (or even best-guesses)

I bought a Plus Hardcard for my Bridgeboard, and it works beautifully
except for one thing – I have never been able to make it boot. I'm back to
using a floppy for booting and then switching to the Plus. If yours will
autoboot the bridgeboard, and if you know why mine won't – please tell me!
I have called their technical support several times, and they tell me that
it is impossible to boot the bridge from that card.

Now this is getting *REALLY* weird…
You may rest assured that at least 1 Plus/BridgeBoard combo
-workedperfectly… mine. Notice past tense. I bought the Plus more than a
year ago, and it was a perfect match. Installed it in the case, and the
BridgeBoard noticed its presence at first boot. I did not use their INSTALL
business, but rather just XCOPY-ied all the MS-DOS stuff from the CBM
supplied diskettes. I did use their LIGHT.COM program though (alerts you of
disk access, see manual), with no problems, and it worked just fine.
Perhaps their tech support people don't know everything 🙂
Did you buy/install your Plus using something previous to 2.04?
Your problem of not being able to boot (ever) is different from mine.
Previous to AmigaOS 2.04, I could. But now I get this weird error message,
and the card isn't recognized at all. I might be able to live with your
current life-style (boot from floppy, then log to C: and re-set PATH etc).
I don't even have that choice.
Typing this message, I got an idea. Will try it out and let you know. Do
you get *ANY* error message from the Plus if you try to boot from it?

I get absolutely nothing from the PLusCard – just a message to insert a
boot disk in drive A: I have not tried it for a while, so I don't recall
the exact message. I worked with it for a week or two and just accepted my
limitations. The drive is so fast and so nice that this is still an
improvement over the hardcard that it replaced. (I was able to autoboot
from the former card, before it crashed for the third time and refused to
be revived again.) I bought the Plus Hardcard in early November, but other
work and activities kept me from working with it for a while – beyond the
time period when the merchant would accept it for refund.
I do not have 2.04 installed as yet. I'm still trying to get the new ROMs
for my 2630 board, so I'm having to use the disk-based version of 2.04 that
I was able to get through the developers' program.
I sure hope the next version of Janus makes some of our problems go away!
Not that I've any information about another version other than vague
rumors, but I feel sure there will be one eventually.

As to your Plus refusing to boot… you may want to re-install MS-DOS from
the start; something may have gone awry somewhere.
My problem is simply not having access to the Plus at all. I have an ABoot
drive set up, and works well enough (even installed MS-DOS 5.0 just the
other day). *BUT* there's a bunch of stuff on the Plus (MS QuickC and PDS
7.1) with data that I'd like to get back. Sigh.
If anyone has their BridgeBoard availablle for inspection… please let me
know if yours has a pin on one of the mother/daughter connectors (bottom,
PC XT 8 bit side) which is bent, PLEASE let me know. This may be
important.
And yes, I __HOPE__ Janus 2+ helps, but I hear nothing about such a beastie
🙁

Supposedly, only the XL series will boot from the Bridgeboard. Also
supposedly, Commodore is working on a new ROM for the AT BB that solves the
problem.
