I can't answer you question specifically…I don't have, nor have I
even seen a CD32 unit.
BUT…
1. I've never seen a machine shipped in styrofoam that wasn't molded
specifically for that machine.
2. Warranty cards are used to generate mailing lists, which are
typically sold (the mailing list that is) for more than it costs to process
them. Thus they are a profit making enterprise…wouldn't make sense to quit
supplying them.
BUT…
"almost" new, or brand new doesn't really matter, if the dealer will
honor the warranty…it's no big deal. After all, the CD32 is so new, it
couldn't have been used that much.

Commodore hasn't figured out that it can make income by selling lists
(hell, it hasn't figured out that it could make money selling OS upgrades
— they see enhancer kits as a cost, not a profit).

I sent the CD32 back today as it is freezing up at times. They said they
will ship another one as soon as they receive the defective unit.
