Sorry for the stupid question but what are these LHA/bin files? Compressed in a
format for Amiga use?
I'm playing MODs back on PCs and wondered how to tap into the wealth of
compositions here. Are these files usable only on Amigas?

LHA213 is a minor version up of LHA212.exe. LHA is a compact archiver which
creates .LZH files. LHA makes tight compressions, fast decompression. It has a
telop display to show the contents of an archiver. SFX, self- extracting header
is very small overhead. Revisions in this version are for batch mode
executions. New switch /s to shut off "skip" msgs, returns different errolevels
if LHA fails to create in dearchiving. Self-Extracting

If you have any questions just ask (even if you are a PC'er <grin>).
Recently I've been putting a "Subjective Rating" line in descriptions of the
mods, but, unless you have the same taste in music that I do it may or may not
be relevant to you.

I'm *so* glad to see someone else with a sense of humor on CIS! So many people
take this stuff tooo seriously. The PC/Mac/Amiga/Unix and DOS/Windoze/OS2 wars
have really saddened me. I thought the idea was to use the platform that fit
the requirement……[end of sermonette <g>]
As to your subject ratings…..as amateur musician du jour <g> it's been
helpful. I've been amazed, frankly, at the quality that some of these musicians
are incorporating in these *little* MODS. And please, sir, if I could, just one
more silly question.
How does one create these things? I asked several of the resident "Amiga heads"
(or whatever the term) at the office abt this process but they are exclusively
Amiga 3000/Unix users and sneered at me. Can you do this with a 1200?

I try to be objective with the subjective ratings <grin>. Meaning, if I
don't necessarily like the song it'll still get rated highly if it has
good instruments (samples), good arrangement/continuity, etc.
There are several programs used to create modules. 2 of the freely
distributable ones are in library 7 here … Med and Protracker.

.LHA files are archives created with a program called LHA — it's similar to
but different than .ZIP files. There is an MS-DOS version of LHA available,
which will work with both .LHA and .LZH files. You'll have to look in one of
the MS-DOS forums – the file you want is LHA213.EXE.

Bob, many thanks. The drawback of off-line readers like Golden Commpass or
Tapcis is that I posted the question *before* gathering messages that night and
saw another post the same question. I already had both DOS and OS/2 versions of
LHA and didn't realize they defaulted to LZH unless you typed in the *full*
file name.
