Wish I had some new goodies to rap about. It's lots of fun, isn't it,
thinking about the new stuff. Glad to hear there'll be so many things out.
Actually, I think TextCraft is underrated–with the capability of adding
modules to fix most of its shortcomings, there will have to be one heck of a
product to take my buying dollars away from graphics, music and storage (not
to mention games). But the DBM is another story… why in the world has CBM
waited so long to bring one out themselves? Absolutely one of the areas where
the Amiga would shine brightest! As long as I don't run over the ol'
Compuserve budget, I would enjoy comparing notes on the new stuff when it

I agree. Did you know AmigaWorld prefers to accept articles in Textcraft
format? I haven't seen Charlie Heath's TxED, or Metadigms editor, but I've
used the public domain MicroEmacs, the Aztec 'z' editor, (a 'vi' clone), and
ED, of course. I did beta-testing for Micro-Systems Software Scribble! word
processor, and I didn't like it. It had some user-hostile features, but then
again, it wasn't a production version. As I wrote my beta-review, I realized
I was mentally comparing it to Textcraft… Scribble! doesn't use icons to
change modes, only pull-down menus, and is heavily based on dot commands for
formatting text. It does allow multi-window file editing. I just wish I had
an editor that could learn about my idea of 'paragraph', and be able to load
a file, regardless of CR, LF, or CR/LF pairs, and format it correctly as it
read it in, and then spit it back out in the same or any format. You see, I
write on IBM, Amiga, and a Model 100 portable. Three different line
terminators, and (n x m) conversion filters…
Ever consider writing a word processor for the Amiga? How easy would it be to
add the features you like to Textcraft? Or would a person have to start all
over to really do it right? I agree that a really good word processor would
have to be a LOT smarter about format! But I also like the MacWrite!
capabilities, which are light years ahead of TC. That's the heck of it. Even
when you turn your thoughts to a word processor on the Amiga, you're talking
multi-media experience! Who knows what all an 8-megabyte word processor can
do??? Probably write the letter itself! Have you heard of any far-out ideas
in the works? Don W.

I have Textcraft and have a L O N G list of shortcomings. I sent the list
to CBM several months ago. Got a nice reply from Engrg. – they suggested
sending a copy to Marketing, which I did — never heard from anyone there. I
never have seen anyone comment on the + or – of TC. If anyone is interested,
I'd be glad to post an updated critique here to start it off. About a DBM,
has anyone heard anything from Ashton-Tate since they solicited querries
several months ago???
