I understand from A/W that 1.3 will boot from an "appropriate" hard disk.
That is, one with an Amiga-specific boot rom. Would that be something in
the controller or the hard disk itself? If in the controller, does CBM's
2090 have it? Any others? Anyone have an idea of when 1.3 will ship?

It's the controller. The 2090 does not have it. The 2090A does have it.
The 2090A is not yet available. I haven't heard if there will be an
upgrade path for current 2090 owners.
