#Vibrant & Viper?????????

Ok, I know this has been asked before but that was before I had a new p60 sitting here with a Viper (2M) on a PCI. So, is there a Vibrant update that includes the Viper? If not, 🙁 , when will it be available? Is their a card/chipset I can select now to get to 24-bit? Any help wil be greatly appreciated, – Phil

Phil: I talked on the phone to a tech rep at Vibrant on Thursday and they were still officially saying 4 to 6 weeks 🙁 David

Thanks…..I think, for the bad news. Have you had any luck get any color resolution out of the VIPER from choosing a different card? Heck, I'm ALMOST willing to spring for another dongle just to use what the card is capable of. – Phil

Phol, I've got a computer comming in a couple of weeks with a PCI viper but don't know any thing about it. Whats it's claim to fame…the only specs I saw were some for Winstones or somthing that looked pretty impressive. Is it suppose to be capable of 1024 768 in 24bit color (I hope). Regards, Peter Kroko

The Viper with 2 megs should do 800x600x24-bit and 1024x768x16-bit, now if the drivers would just visualize…… – Phil

Peter: The Diamond Viper is a graphics board built around the Weitek P9000 chip, which at present is one of the fastest graphics accellerators available. You should be aware, however, that at present there is a small problem with the PCI version of this board and the in-line drivers from Vibrant Graphics that ship with 3D Studio 3.0. Diamond and Vibrant have gotten together to solve the problem and the whole issue may be moot by the time you receive your system. Right now, the board will not do the higher resolutions and deeper color depths using the Vibrant driver in 3DS 3.0 (although it works fine in 2.0). David

Phil: I haven't done much 3DS with it in the past couple of weeks. I was holding out until the new in-line driver was available. But I can configure for a VESA driver and get the greater color depth and resolution, just not as fast. What we're talking about doesn't take an additional dongle. Just the one that comes with 3DS. The Vibrant drivers are included as part of 3DS 3.0. The card works fine with 2.0 in the high-res, deep depth modes, so it's only a problem with the Vibrant driver. Evidently, Diamond changed the chipset and never sent a board to Vibrant. David

David, Dongle -> I was refering to their Liquid Speed (I would hope that for the $ they would upgrade those first). I'll check out the VESA drivers. Thanks, – Phil

David – My mistake, I thought you were talking about all the upgraded drivers from Vibrant, not just the one for the Viper, which appears to be a special case. -JE
