MMETS
Greeting from Garry Hargreaves DownUnder,
I am a regular on the forum and a avid 3DS user. I have been
reviewing Nancy Fulton's book (3DS Applied) for an Australian
national publication `Multi-CAD' magazine. The mag features a
regular 3DS spot and has the likes of Glenn Melenhorst & Michele
Bousquet as subscribers/writers. I supplied a rather large
educational multimedia interactive demo (35Mb) for inclusion on
the book's accompanying CD.
***I was after some information regarding the MMETS for the MultiCAD
article as a side bar????***
So far it seems to be a secret organisation. Autodesk doesn't
talk about you too much – even in house (secret handsakes?). This text
file will selfdistruct in 15 sec…one, two..
The Multimedia Education Training Specialist (MMETS). Appears to
be a special 3DS curriculum development team which sets standards (or
recommendations) for adoption by United States (and worldwide?)
Authorised Training Centres (ATC's).
I travelled to Siggraph 93 and met a bunch of MMETS
and would like to know if anyone can talk about the
aims/objectives/purpose of the MMETS (as they understand them)..and
implications for other countries..goals for the future…requirements?
I would also like to know about Autodesk's plans for Multimedia
Training Centres around the world – since there is a good chance
I will be involved the MultiMedia side of a government run technical
training college (TAFE) which already has an ATC. (Technical And
Further Education—(TAFE) has a statewide services some 250,000 students
in various vocations – electrical/business/catering/underwater basket
weaving etc etc)
I realise your all busy people and I don't wish impose but maybe you
can take a moment to post/email some MMETS promotional info? (Is there
MMETS promotional info?)
Wayne Hogins has already been in touch (from Malaysia) and suggested I
post my request in the Educational Issues section of the forum. I'm
also trying to contact Milton McGrew (or the CA Educational Marketing A'Desk
persons) at the same time!

Hi, from the winter side of the planet. The MMETS are a group of 13 in the
U.S./Canada who were brought together by Autodesk's Learning Systems Group to
act as the AutoCAD ETS's multimedia counterparts. We've gotten together a few
times in the last two years to discuss methods of MM training and curriculum
intended for use within the ATC system. We have held training sessions for
potential ATC instructors around the country as well.
Because there is no history of MM training we have been a little slow at
developing much hard copy to date……but, that is about to change. We are in
the process of creating a new, detailed training document for the instructor
development sessions to be held this spring/summer and to create routines for
publication by the LSG. Our training objective is a mix of technique and
pedagogy at this time, but we are discussing the possibility of offering some
form of technical only, 4 or 5 day sessions in the future.
We don't have a secret handshake (yet) but we are one of the strangest groups
you're likely to encounter in a while.<BG>
Hope that helps, perhaps some other MMETS will offer the "other side of the
story".

I'm not a MMET but have on many occasions spoken to and been
enlightend by them. I'm sure these guys and gals will not blow their
own horn so let me lay a few compliments down for them…
IMHO the MMETS are Autodesk's most important resource to
implement and maintain an effective Multimedia Training Program. when
people of this quality teach teachers, the net effect is better
trained students. The better trained students walk away from an MMATC
the better the prestiege/reputations of the centers will be.
From my information, there will soon be 4 books on the market
on 3D studio (right steven? :-)) 2 of them were written by MMETS. Not
a bad track record N'est pas….

I'll morph out of the ETS pond for a moment (inside joke); and
confirm Roger's note about MMETS' being involved in current 3DS book
production. Nancy Fulton is the author of "3D Studio Applied" and I
am a co-author of "Inside 3D Studio". John Slater also contributed to
"Inside 3D Studio" and he is yet another MMETS. Begining to sound
like a conspiracy huh?
Anyway, it sounds like you've already got leads on the most
knowledgable people in Ted, Milt, and Wayne. You may also consider
contacting Grace Gallego at Autodesk as well. She should know the
most about plans for the training center network.

It looks like Steven, Roger, and Ted have given you some good direction. Grace
is here on the CIS.
She will have the answer on Training center questions as Steve has said.
What part of OZ land are you in? I was to do a teaching exchange in the
Melborne area this year but the instructor there had to pull out, so I'm on
hold till next year.
What autodesk Multimedia products are you using. what is your training
application level?
3D Studio is the most exciting product out there.

Hi Pat,
In Brisbane (Queensland). I use 3DS3, AniPro and have just completed a large
interactive demo (40Mb-ish) for Nancy Fulton Book (on the CD).
It includes realtime digitised video, buttons that zoom (like a real window
app) fades, text, sound, still graphics etc etc I use it in my classes….
