Hello, and thank you for your note in the FM newsletter, that is what finally
convinced me to buy a modem and head for Compuserve. Although, I feel fairly
comfortable here, it has been a trying couple of days getting to this point and
playing in the Practice Forum. I am a geologist and mineral collector residing
in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; my main interests are field collecting, especially in
the Pacific Northwest. I also write and publish books on minerals and mineral
collecting; along with a newsletter for mineral collectors-the Mineral News,
more on all that some other time.
I hope to see the sharing of information on minerals (and all things
"rockhounding") increase here. Perhaps I can put condensed information from the
Mineral News in here somewhere.

There are a few other geo-types floating around out here in cyberspace.
I'm a geologist working for the nonce at the Robinson project down here in Ely
(the old copper camp). Others bop in from the Net from time to time, too.
What's your work involve in Idaho?

Welcome to the forum!
There have been times since this section became active a year and a half ago
when mineral collectors were more prominent here – lately the geology fans have
been doing more of the chatting. If you were to post articles here, they would
be most welcome and might provoke some interesting discussions. Large ones,
those of permanent interest, and anything with an "advertising" flavor would be
best in the library, but shorter things are more likely to get noticed and draw
conversation here on the message board. Have you run any articles about
fluorescent minerals (my most prominent interest) lately?
Since Michael uploaded GEOMAG.TXT in the library for this forum (section 12,
Geo/Earth Science), I have been meaning to subscribe to Mineral News, but that
was about the time my job (computer programmer) started taking more of my time,
and I have been as fast getting around to subscribing as Jerry has been joining
the Fluorescent Mineral Society since I started twisting his arm… 🙂 You
might want to check that GEOMAG.TXT has the latest info on subscribing.

WOW! What a surprise to see you here! Doug did a good thing with the FM notice.
Lanny, I live next door in WA STate and have enjoyed both your books and
specimens now living in museums and collections. It is an honor t with any
good fortune, we can entice you to stay for a while.
My interests tend along Paleontological lines, but there's no hiding the
minerals
we've collected as well. We hope to spend a good bit of time this summer in
Idaho collecting both meineral and fossil stuff.
Welcome to the Forum! By the way, for those reading this, Lanny's Mineral News
is an excellent resource to have in your identification and location library.

Thanks for the good word about Mineral News, and glad you like my books. I am
planning on uploading condensed "news" items and locality info from Mineral
News when Doug M. and I work it out.
I still have a lot to learn such as how to write these messages offline then
upload them!

There are several folks here who are quite knowledgable about minerals and in
fact several X-Ray Diff specialists as well. I just wish I had a used SEM.
