Hello: I am looking for a utility to mount an NFS drive coming from an SCO UNIX
box (a 486 with a serial digiboard) onto my Amiga 2000/040/882. I would also
like to telnet there as a wyse60 or something…can anybody help? Thanx! -Scott
I don't know what hardware connection you have in mind… I'm connected to a
LAN of unix machines over Ethernet (via the CBM A2065 board), using the TCP/IP
protocol (via CBM's AS225 software). I'm able to mount hard drives from Sun's,
SGI's, and a VAX/VMS, using NFS – they have to be 'exported' to my machine by
the various unix machines, but that's just an entry in a file. The AS225
package contains telnet, ftp, rsh, and other utilities. It also has a vt100
emulator. The first release doesn't have a Wyse emulator, but I don't know
about release#2.
I'm not too good at this stuff, but I'll be glad to help if I can.

Does anybody know anything about using an Amiga over serial connection? I do
not think I am talking about a SLIP line, just a direct serial connection to an
SCO box…. Thanx! -Scott

If you mean using the Amiga as a terminal on the SCO Unix box, just get a
null-modem cable and a terminal emulator.
If you mean using a serial network, you are talking about SLIP.

Ahhh…yes…I could just set up a terminal over serial but I was
looking to NFS some drive space too; I will export a mount point on
the SCO box and my roommate and his mac quadra will mount it on
themselves using mac-tcp or something and that's also what I want to
do. We are using ethernet coax for the house, but I do have 4 serial
ports on the sco box too. I need a coax ethernet card for the amiga
and tcp/ip and nfs as well. I do not want the amiga to serve a hard
disk or a session (although that wou;d be cool), I just want to have
a standard amiga disk that opens up to the SAME mount point as the
quadra so we can "share" disk space (sneaker-net sucks) and also so I
can do terminal emulation. I hear that commodore's ethernet board
was discontinued but they will be coming out with a new one
soon…..any suggestions? (I'm getting teh SCO box tomorrow and
loading it up next weekend) Thanx!! -Scott
Ethernet cards are available from ASDG — their EB920 should be orderable
from most Amiga dealers.
Software is a bit of a problem. There is a freeware TCP/IP stack
called AmiTCP, but the only NFS server available for it is in early
beta. If you are on a low budget, you might give that a try. AmiTCP
is in the forum libraries somewhere, the NFS server might be, too,
otherwise it is on aminet somewhere…
my dealer wants 325$ for that card; I can get a 16-bit ethernet for under
100$…what good are my at-style slots if even a simple ethernet card cannot be
used? sheesh.,…expensive cards and NO software….this rots. I love my Amiga
but puhleeeeaase….wonder why CBM is in trouble? 🙂 -Scott
You should be able to get it for $26 less. Not much consulation, but…
There *is* software. I already mentioned the free AmiTCP, and AS225 has
an excelent NFS client, but its current availability is questionable.
This should change soon…
