#Syquest mounting help

Help! I've just got a Syquest 555 drive that I want to add to the SCSC bus of my Amiga 2000. Using the utilities, I have no problem formatting the disk, but when I re-set the computer there is no sign of the drive. Do I need a mount-list command? And if so, what? Any help much appreciated. John, You need to use HDToolbox to set it to mount on startup. Don

Don, I've tried this, but HDTools does not seem to have the correct information for any of my SCSI drives. I'm using the IVS Trumpcard Pro controller, and all the prepping has been done using their software. Altering the HDTools tooltype to use the IVS .device gets HDTools running, but the returned information is very odd. It doesn't recognise my Quantum 250Meg drive, and all the device numbers are wrong! It does recognise the Syquest, but if ! try and set the drive up using HDTools, then the system hangs on re-boot. Not until I disconnect the Syquest will the system boot properly. Any thoughts? Thanks John A. On AutoPilot all the way from the U.K.

What OS version and controller are you using? I use a GVP Series II and have three of the SyQ 555 units on it. The GVP will automount the cartridges on bootup and if I spool them up after boot, I issue the GVPSCSICTRL -r command via an iconx script icon. Are you writing the Rigid Disk Block to the cartridge? Here is the mountlist that the GVP utility, ExpertPrep, wrote for my SyQuest cartridges. Chistopher, I have OS2.1 with the 2.05 ROMs and the IVS Trumpcard Pro. It seems that the IVS software is not writing a mountlist for the Syquest. I've just bought a 1200 which came with GVP software for hard-disk prepping, so I might get a SCSI card for it and check whether I that works. In the meantime, I'll try mounting the drive using the details you have so kindly provided. I'm going into a busy period for a few days, but I'll keep you informed. Best wishes, John A. John, I forgot to add that you'll need to edit that mountlist. Change the Unit = 5 to the ID# of your drive and the Device = gvpscsi.device to your device driver name (case sensitive). Chris

This will not automount the Syquest, but there is a file called something like "SCSImount" in the libraries that will permit you to mount any SCSI devices after startup. It is small, and works well. Hope that will be of some help. George

Don't try and use HDToolBox with the IVS. You have to use the software provided by IVS. Just call IVS and they'll get you new ROMs and utilities. –Paul < Motorola Inside >
