Hi. I'm new to the Amiga, and new to Forums. (oh, no! not another one!) Anyway, I've just bought an Amiga Modem 1200 RS, and I'm using the AmigaTerm v1.0 software that came with the thing. No matter what I do, I can't do any downloads. My term charactaristics are 1200baud, 7-bit even parity 1Stop. I've tried using XMODEM and CompuServe 'B'; I just get timeout errors. Please help! 🙁 I finally found an NX1000 printer driver in the library… -Bill.

Bill, In order to successfully download, you will need to set your terminal parameters to 8-bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. Amigaterm doesn't download correctly with any other setting. BTW, I'd recommend you check in library 4 here for a term program called Access (the file name is ACC142.ARC). It's a shareware term program that is much nicer than AmigaTerm (in my opinion). Hope this helps….BobR

Oh No! Not another one! <grin> Seriously, welcome to the forum and the Amiga, Bill. I see Bob Rakosky has already answered your question, so I won't bore you with repetition, but I just couldn't resist that first line. We have many members here, and they range from the newest beginner to the very advanced, but they are all willing to help out anyone. Enjoy the forum. -larry

Bill, Set your term to 8-N-1 for downloading. I think that will clear up your troubles. And let me suggest that you download Access! to use for a term. It's nice, and supports quickB, has a chat mode, and hundreds (I think – didn't really count 'em) of nice features. Shareware, written by Keith Young who's usually here, LIB4, Acc142.arc (8-n-1 — 8-bits, no parity, 1 stop bit) Glad you found the printer driver. Betty

Thanks to everyone who helped. Yep, I downloaded my driver correctly. And then, whilst I was wandering amongst this forum, I found a SYSOP's note explaining the problem with AmigaTerm and detailing the settings everyone has explained to me. This software may have a short life, though. Since everyone reccommends "Access!", I'm gonna download it (as soon as I get back from Houston next week; I'm leaving frigid Massachusetts today for warmer climes…) Here's to Amiga Superiority, -Bill.

Well, Bill, You do know the right state to visit. But I hope you chose the right time. This week has been wonderful – I hear there will be colder weather for the next few days. You certainly will like Access!, I think. You might also want to look at Whap! in Lib16. It provides automated use of CompuServe – logs you on, uploads and downloads the things you want, signs you off, and then provides a viewer/editor for you to read and answer messages offline, look at library catalogs offline, etc. Betty
