#DL10 File
5 messages in this thread
I Just uploaded an arcfile to DL10 called IRQkill.arc. This file is for the
new IRQ Virus. Please merge as soon as possible. Thanks, <–Stan
Stan,
I merged it as soon as I spotted it -after unarcing and checking it, of course.
This new virus sounds really bad.
There is something else you might want to add to this file. Over in Tech,
Lib14, there is a program called SysChk.ARC. This was originally written to
help ease the pain of moving over to 1.3, but will work equally well in
checking for this virus. It will check every WB file on your disk and report
to you the ones that are not the release version of 1.3, and those that are
missing. It doesn't change anything – just reports to you. You can have it do
this on screen, to a file, or to the printer. Seems to me that it has a new
life ahead as we fight off this new virus.

This particular strain of the IRQ virus seems to be benign, but the way it
works, gives me a bad feeling of things to come. I now rather happy we stopped
putting WB on our stuff, and installing our disks. One of our early demo disks
started going out with the SCA virus. Thank goodness only 6 or 7 went out
before Dan James got his and called right away. We were able to track every
one of them down. Whew! <–SK
That was very good fortune, indeed!
I remember that that virus was new about the time of one of the WOC shows in
Toronto. A friend was speaking at the show, and one of his disks caught the
SCA virus when he used a machine to demonstrate something. I'd been writing
him about the virus and he'd mostly ignored me. Not after that!
BTW, we received a message from Steve Tibbetts saying he had found a bug in the
new VirusX that was to kill this new virus, so we are holding off on it until
we receive his corrected version.
