#Blitzdisk vs ffs, 1.3?

Cheath, I'd been using blitzdisk all along even under FFS and 1.3 WB on my
2000 until yesterday with not a hint of trouble. Last night, I finally put
in my 1.3 rom chip, and within a few minutes my 2000 was going crazy on
file writes. Now, it may well have been a loose cable somewhere. I don't
know. I do know after much playing with plugs it kept happening, then I
turned of blitzdisk and left it off on subsequent reboots, and I haven't
had a hint of trouble since. I noticed that the trouble started while
running whap, and some msg files, the siginfo file, and the prm file got
clobbered. I cleaned all that up.
Is this the sort of trouble your update notice was warning about?
The problems with the old BlitzDisk and FFS would appear when you read back
something that has been written to the FFS partition. It is a definite
problem, and I'd rather that nobody were using the old BlitzDisk with FFS,
but it doesn't sound like what you're describing. But if it'll get a few
folks to remove the old BlitzDisk from their FFS drives until the new
BlitzDisk is available, I'm all for it C-: …cheath
OH NO! I just reinstalled BlitzDisk on my FFS partition, with 1.3 chips and
now it appears that I may have problems? I`ve done a lot of work since I
reinstalled it @ a week ago, and haven't noticed any problems, but I gather
from this thread that I should stop using it NOW? Is there an upgrade avail
that will work? I'd hate to stop using it… –jp–
Yes – please do NOT use BlitzDisk V1.1 with an FFS hard disk, as we mentioned
in the manual a year ago we didn't know if it would be safe and indeed it is
not. There will be an update available shortly, which will be in patch file
"BDFIX1.ARC" here on CIS when it is ready; I'm holding up release now so we can
make sure there is just a single update needed to work with as many different
vendor's hard drives as possible. For any hard drive vendors, if you would
like us to verify BlitzDisk with your hard drive, you can send us a loaner
drive which will be returned once we have verified that drive.
