#CrossDos dozing??

For some reason, I can't get CrossDos to operate properly under 2.1.
I've been trying to format a disc with PC0: and PC1: (and I've checked –
they *are* both mounted) and I don't get the alternate PC0:???? Icon that
is supposed to appear.
What's going on?

when you click on a disk and select format from the workbench menu, do
you see a requester that asks what device to format and the format to use?

All I get is the standard DF0:/DF1: Format window telling me the disc
capacity and my selection of FFS and Trashcan and the like.
According to the book, I should see two icons: one for DF0:/DF1: and one
for PC0:/PC1:. All I get is DF0:/DF1:.
I'm stumped.

you did drag the PC0 icon from the Sys:Storage/DosDrivers drawer to the
Sys:Devs/DosDrivers drawer, right?

The book states that Crss-Dos can be operated manually, without having to
drag them to the other drawer – just by clicking the icon.
This should have no bearing.

There is some setting which makes PC0: not show up until it is accessed..
try what you're trying, then open a shell and type "dir pc0:"…

Look at the PC0.info with WB Information and see what the
Mount parm is set at. It probably is set at 0, which means that the
mount does nothing until a disk is inserted in the drive. If the
Mount parm is set to 1, then as soon as you insert an MSDOS disk, the
icon will show up on the WB. No disk icon will show up in either
case UNTIL you insert an MSDOS disk. If you insert a blank disk to
format and run the Crossdos replacement Format command, you should
find a list requestor from which you choose the format, either
AmigaDos or MSDOS.
