#lc890 + envelopes

Pull the little door at the front of the second bin down(as if to load paper).
Now look at where the printer would feed the paper from that bin. That's the
manual feed slot. You can stand a piece of paper in that slot (behind the
rubber rollers, in front of the stainless steel.
It's easier if you pull the whole second sheet feeder assembly forward.

Yes, you are right. That does make it easier. I am using a Mac now (used to be
IBM) and I can't get manual feed to work at all with the Mac.
Richard –
You're still ubable to get manual feeding out of the Mac? That's odd. Tell me
what you're doing.
If you're trying to do it through embedded commands, I still haven't figured
that out, but I do it using the control panel very neatly.

I was using the Nec LC890 on my IBM but I have it hooked up to my new Mac now.
I had problems getting it installed when I first hooked it up. I have it hooked
up through AppleTalk. Hypercard would not print anything no matter what I chose
in the Chooser. Finally I tried Word and it worked perfectly. I have the
Laserwriter printer and PaserPrep 9 my system folder. The Mac knows it is
talking to a Silentwriter. I only get bin 1 and manual feed. Selecting Manual
Feed selects bin 1 also. Should I have chosen another LaserWriter? Everything
prints perfectly. I even modified LaserPrep with Smoothie.

I just don't know. I"m not good at using PostScript with the printer. I hope
you figure it out. Seems to me some people were saying the new firmware
doesn't respond to the binselect instructions. I just use the front panel
buttons and curse mildly each time. I'm getting pretty good at them, though.

Oh. I thoguht you meant the on screen control panel you get before printing. I
have been able to use the binselect with Page Maker. PM has its own
Silentwriter driver. Legal size, bin 2 work fine in Page Maker.
Didn't know anyone made a Silentwriter driver, but that sure is a point in
favor of PM! Wish Word and some of the other vendors would do the same.

Yes, PageMaker comes with about a dozen printer drivers. When Silentwriter is
selected I can choose bin 2.
Bill,
If you're using MSWORD there are two great Postscript drivers available
inthe MSAPP Forum. PSPPRD.ARC & PSLPRD.ARC. These allow bin switching via
software and have 20 different font size selections.
I agree with you about the courtesy of the NEC tech support people.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to get anything resolved. I reported an anomaly
with the Laserjet emulation, which they agreed existed after testing, but that
was in October. I called back a month later, and they promised me a report and
a letter and some help I'm still waiting. BTW, we've had our LC-890 for about
14 mos. and I didn't know there was an upgraded manual. Guess I'll get on that,
too.
Got the envelope printing working, but don't know if it's worth the
trouble. Do you use a utility or macro to set up the address. I think I'll have
to try to write a macro in MS-Word to pull it out and place it properly for
printing. Thanks for your help.—–Myron
