Is the latest version of the Yost Group IPAS boutique compatible with
3D Studio Release 3? If they are compatible, do they take full
advantage of 3D Studio's newest features? When will the latest
version that fully takes advantage of 3DS Rel.3 be coming out? Can
you give me detailed product information?
See msg 82712 for compatibility issues. Re new IPAS3 features… our
IPAS3 routines (with HEAVY graphic feedback and numerous interactive
UI features) will be shipping in April.
gary: how goes it. ipas 3 shipping in april. yes thats what i like
to hear. are you guys going to put some demos of the new ips3 stuff
on this forum, for us to download? i cant wait. also you once
recommended that if i get a second pentum, i should network it with
my first and use it as a render station only. does this second pentum
need to have all the bells and wistles of the server or can it be
just bare bones??(ram, hd, videocard, targa, etc…). let me know

bare bones with sufficient RAM and a reasonable hd, is fine. A lot of
people even use a switch box for at least the monitor, possibly mouse
and keyboard too, so they can share peripherals to keep costs down.

We'll definitely be putting demos of all the new stuff up in DL1 as
soon as we start shipping in April. Re the 2nd Pentium, MartinF
handled that…
Hi, I am a fairly new 3DS user and am needing to produce a water
effect for a Car Dealer client sooner that I think I am ready to. I
have the Yost Water IPAS filter and have figured out the texture
mapping….but how do I animate it. I just want a body of water (a
bay to be exact) to modulate as a logo moves in….any help would be
greatly appreciated. Craig Meadows/Florida Production Group.
Go ahead and apply water.sxp as a bump map, Craig. Play around with
the Radius and Length settings until you're happy with the wave form.
Add some color to the material. Specular highlights really can come
into play here. You could even use Flat-Automatic reflection to get
real fancy (if you do this, remember to apply the material on the
face level. Adjusting the Speed setting any higher than 0 should
animate the waves for you. Some low-res flic previews should help you
find a good speed setting.
Carefully reading the IPAS manuals is critical to understanding the
functionality of these routines. Also, analyzing the sample files can be a huge
help.
Have fun,

Alan thanks a bunch for the IPAS tips…will try them immediately and let you
know…..3DS is great, just great!….
You're very welcome, Craig. I hope your ocean turns out nice.
-Alan
Just follow Alan's advice and you'll be fine.
