I think you must have been looking at this trailer from an Internet message:

Note the "Inc." and the Internet address that does not end with ".edu" as I
expect a school's address to do.

Thanks for your reply. I am an alumni of New Mexico Tech located in socorro,
New Mexico. This is seventy miles south of Albuquerque. I know the adress given
is not the school address, I simply wanted to find out if this is affiliated
with New Mexico Tech or not. These people could be alumni and perhaps this is
an alumni organization. They should have responded to this if they are. The
NMIMT should have caught their eye on the message board.

Hi, Todd–
It is unlikely the NMIMT people can see your message here, unless they have
CIS accounts I am not aware of. The message I posted was received via the
Internet – Internet users cannot look into CIS forums (maybe that will change
someday), though we CIS users can subscribe to their mail-lists, if a little
clumsily.
You can CISmail to the Internet address in my last message (the address must be
prefixed with ">INTERNET:" when filling in the CISmail "To:" field), and ask
about their affiliations, or even though you have not subscribed, I believe you
can send to ">INTERNET:rocks-and-fossils@world.std.com" and have it forwarded
to everyone on the list – but answers sent the same way will not come to you
unless you subscribe to the list, so be sure to specify that answers should be
directed to your ID if you take that route.

Thanks Doug, I understand, however if all this is true why did this women even
bother to post this if it is that difficult to reply? How did she get on in the
first place?

She did not post it in the forum; she sent it to the rocks-and-fossils
mail-list. Since I am a subscriber, rocks-and-fossils automatically forwards
such things to me (along with hundreds of others), and I posted a copy here in
the forum. I have stopped doing that since the volume on that mail-list has
increased, and will instead be posting collections of such messages in the
library (look for RM0001.ARC for the first of these). INTERN.TXT in the library
contains the discussion I had posted here a few weeks back on how this all
works.
