I'm trying to convert all my 3ds 24 bit image files to
the Macintosh PICT format.
Does anyone know of a conversion utility (shareware or
otherwise) which will take tiff/tga/jpeg files and convert
them to PICT format?
(I was hoping Paintshop Pro, but that don't cut it..)

Image Alchemy will do that rather well. The command line would be:
alchemy -m input1.tif
for a single image, or
alchemy — -m *.tif \newdir
to take an entire directory of TIFFs and put them in another directory as PICT
files.
There is a public domain version of the program that will handle small images,
or the full blown version that includes a DOS extender for any size. There are
also Sun Sparcstation and SGI versions for the product, if you really want some
speed!

Image Alchemy by handmade software is the answer for what you are trying to do.
It's outstanding! You just type "alchemy -m *.JPG" and off it goes. This
program covers more raster formats than ANY. The shareware version does up to
640×480, pay HSI $80 and they'll give you a 386 version that will do any
resolution. Plus, most variants, and many image variables can be batch
converted with alchemy.
