Hot rumour? or gossip? One's imagination can only wonder……a powerfule…make that super powerful msdos/windows/windows NT guy and a powerful Unix animation program…..where could it all lead? Perhaps it was just a wedding gift for his new wife…..maybe they'll bundle SoftImage with Word or Excel…..e-gads!

Seems likely to be true — just saw the brief announcement in today's San Francisco Chronicle Business section. I am very curious about this, since Microsoft usually deals with software for the people and this package is unusually specific. Probably tells us something about Microsoft's long range vision for the computer world.

Gary, Don't go kidding us about stuff like this!<G> Any real truth to it, or are you just having a slow evening? It's kinda hard to believe that Langlois would sell to Bill, but I guess all kind of stupid stuff happens in Software land. P.S. – Time to call my broker, SI is has been publicly held, trading on NASDAQ since July '92.

>Any real truth to it, or are you just having a slow evening? Nothing but the truth! I've been expecting something like this ever since they gave Martin Hash the boot at MS. Through channels, I had learned that they wanted to get into the graphics biz more heavily, and that they were looking for someone to acquire. I thought it might've been Alias, but it turned out to be SI.

Very interesting. I must admit I'm taken by surprise. SI has extremely god financials and a well defined "vision" that doesn't really correspond to Bill's regular regugitations.

One would think there were 'Better' companies in 'That' price range, wouldn't one?

James, >> One would think there were 'Better' companies in 'That' price range…. << You're not suggesting Microsoft should have acquired AutoDesk are you? <g> -JE

Hi Nik, It's evidently been upgraded to a more functional, more features package. I think John Jordan has the scoop… -Alan

I guess Hash was just the peanuts (passe, I might say) you find in restaurants' waiting lobby… Now, for the main course, Alaskan king crab and chop sticks (plus raw sea urchin for desert). That's great news as it places Softimage out of the picture. They are probably going to put the whole package as a Visual Basic VXB… <g>

>> That's great news as it places Softimage out of the picture. << So you think Softimage is going to get buried in the corporate mass of Microsoft? Personally I think we're witnessing the awakening of Goliath. But David has his sling shot drawn….

That would make Render 24 the Sorbet……<g>
#83848From: John TissavaryFeb 15, 1994 2:05 AM
That is really frightening <g>.

Care to speculate on why? Very interesting too because last week Microsoft was upgraded on the basis that Bill Gates stated fourth quarter earnings were much better than analysts anticipated. Which probably was done to increase the value of the stock on a trade. (That's my speculation. <g>)

Check my msg 83895 to Paul. Beyond that, I think I should probably keep my speculations to myself. – G

Yeah, I also would've thought Alias since they didn't have such a hot year. SI makes more sense if Bill wants a winner though. SI is having a press conferance today in Montreal to disclose more details of the "merger", I've got a call in to get breifed and I should get E-Mail press release from them today or tomorrow. Suffice it to say a visit to thier NAB booth is now a must for all.
