To use the Commodore shell and "Alias" you need to make sure you've mounted NewCon, and made Shell-Seg resident using the Commodore Resident command. You shouldn't have any problem mix-n-matching other ARP commands, but definitely want to use the Commodore RESIDENT, MOUNT and PROTECT programs until ARP V1.3 is released. …cheath

Cheath, Other than having "ALIAS" problems, all of my arp commands work fine as do my 1.3 commands. I have made Shell-Seg resident with the 1.3 version of resident, I have mounted newcon and I currently have all other capabilities of the shell. Unfortunetly I *KNOW* that the problem with not being able to use the alias command is User oriented (ME). I have to be looking in the wrong directory or something like that, but after going over this ( and over this and over this) I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm going wrong. It looks like I'm going to have to swallow my pride and ask a Pro to look at my startup-sequence on the hard disk. The only thing that I haven't tried (that I can think of) is instead of using "defdisk" to do my assigns, I'll have to execute each assign separately. Can you believe that such a little thing as this can bother someone so much….Oh Well….. Thanks Jamie :^(

Jamie – you don't need to use "defdisk" if you've got the ARP Assign command as you can give multiple ASSIGN pairs to the ARP Assign and have it do everything with one execution of ASSIGN in your startup-sequence. Just use something like: Assign C: DH0:C L DH0:L LIBS: DH0:LIBS … etc Regarding the ALIAS thing again, if ALIAS doesn't work it almost definitely means you're actually running old-cli rather than newshell. This will happen if you haven't got NEWCON: properly mounted (by name NewCon), or if Shell-Seg isn't resident. …cheath )6%%KY:-k3Ew[C4x 06-Jan-89 17:39:47 %7.LH\O#onald tolson 71310,2165 I hear you!
