Interfont

Harriet, many thanks for the word (both here and mail) about the
compatibility tween Terrain and Silver. You are right; I must have been
very sleepy the evening I convinced myself that they were not compatible. I
am glad that you have made Silver 3.0 a first priority still, since (for my
selfish purposes, at least) that is the most glaring hole in my work.
thanks much.
–jp-InterFont… great stuff! It has already saved me time on a
commerical jo where time is where its at… now for a suggestion, or
question: Could you build in (or have I just missed the capability) the
ability to load an IFF pic (any res/size) behind the editing screen, and
let the user move it around, so that I could trace around it? (and create
the 3d stuff this way) You have build in genlock ability, but I can't
figure out any way to trace logos that I have done in an IFF pic…
I have to start from scratch… 2) in same line.. how about the ability to
move the edit window around on the screen, so when you do genlock (or use
an IFF pic) to trace, you can put the edit window over the portion of the
screen you want? 3) How about the ability to independently specify the
number of points in each spline, rather than having to use the same amount
in each spline?
I often have both small and large curves in the same object, and using a
large number of spline points is wasteful for the small curves 4) how about
the ability to 'bevel' the front and back of the object automatically? (ie.
user specifies the degree of bevel, and the size of the bevel compared with
the rest of the face, etc?) —————–anyway… you want
suggestions? right? KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! We're pushing you out here in
Seattle… –jp–
John Foust here. Thanks for the kind words about InterFont! Your comments
are much in line with what we're been hearing from other InterFont owners.
As for tracing IFF images, we knew a lot of people wanted to do that, but
couldn't justify it to be added to InterFont. It would be better as a
separate product, I think, called InterTrace :-). (There is no such
product yet.) It's hard to be able to accept any rez/size bitmap, and
still conform to the character paradigm of fonts, as well as represent all
the colors on-screen, as well as having reasonable menu colors. You can use
Calligrapher to load a bitmap into any font, then load it into InterFont.
In this way, you adjust the colors and sizes.
Right now, the edit window is stuck in one place. Good point, it would
have been nice as a real window. Your idea about setting the number of
points on a spline-by-spline basis is a good one, I've added it to the list
of maybes for 2.0. Beveling is a good idea, too, but there are several
reasons why it would be difficult.
Use the RM Function to read
this message.
If you have a genlock & a camera, it eliminates the need to load pictures to
trace. Just trace the video!
Thanks, I might try that… the 'problem' I have is this: I have plenty of
commercial logos that I have done via digitizers and paint programs, which are
currently just IFF images… it would be nice to be able to load these to trace
around to get the 3D effect, rather than have to `recreate' them again via
digitizer, etc… and some were just freehand logos to start with, so there is
no way to do it except start afresh.. I will try what you say for what I can…
thanks… –jp–
