If you find the drive is defective and intend on replacing it you
might want to get C='s HiDensity drive. I just picked one up from
Devine Computer for $125. It was plug and play. Works great,
recognizes MS-DOS formatted diskettes via CrossDOS with no changes to
my system setup.
Devine advertises in the amiga mags. Their 800 number is no longer in
service, when you call it you'll get the 836-4138 number.

I appreciate the advice. I'm going to put in a HD floppy anyway–it'll be
worth it just to be able to tell in this kind of case whether it's the floppy
itself or something else.
I took my floppy drive out and slapped it around a bit; now it works about 95%
or maybe better.
I'll check DeVine's ad right now.

What brand is that HD drive you got from Devine? Also, does it come with
a front bezel that matches the A2000's case?

The drive is a C= model. The bezel is the new color, white. Since the
driver is slimmer the opening in the case will have some space when
in place.
However, the hood on my Amiga has been off for so long and I just
don't feel like putting it on just to see how it looks with the new
drive. Besides, I just pulled the cables off df0: and laid the new
drive atop it. Plugged the cables in and powered back up. 🙂
