I am interested in hearing from others who collect slide rules; also
in creating a demonstration-sized slide rule. Can this be done in
IC? /EXIT

I'm not a slide rule collector as such, but I still have my Frederick
Post Versalog Slide Rule at hand that my older sister gave me when
(to her suprise) I entered high school. <BG> It's a nice bamboo unit
that just keeps getting smoother over time. It lives in the original
leather case with clip-on belt loop. I still have the hard back
manual that came with it. Any idea what this would be worth now? I
haven't a clue what it might have cost new.
In the early seventies and eighties when I was in college there were
no calculators. At least not the hand held varieties. We had to use
slide rules. In most General Chemistry classes the semester started
out with lessons on how to use a slide rule. To do this a very large
slide rule, about six feet in lenght and 1.5 feet in length was hung
over the blackboard and the professor used it to demostrate to
students slide rule techniques. They worked the same and where just
as accurate as the small hand held models. Perhaps if you call some
local universities they may have one, forgotten and in storage some
where.

as both a student and teacher.
Actually…stores that sell drafting supplies are still good sources for slide
rules.

This is true, I haven't been in the market for one myself for years. As I
understood
n he was looking to obtain or create a large display model. The type prof's
used for teaching slide rule use seemed to me to be a good idea for him.
I would bet that most large high schools, and/or local universities still have
the display ones that you are referring to tucked away in some "store room!"
