I think this is GREAT! Now all we need is DXF to DrawPlus….

Ed, what's your assessment of the number of people who use AutoCAD release 9,
versus the number that have versions earlier than release 9? My AutoCAD
converter for InterChange reads and converts the elevated and extruded
entities such as lines and solids, meaning pre-release 9 users can load their
existing objects into Amiga 3D programs. Do release 9 people tend to use
3DFACE entities for their entire object, or do they continue to use the more
common LINE and SOLID type entities for drawing? I say it's the latter.
John, yes you are right BUT the reason that people used their extruded
entities is because the DID not had any REAL #D entities to work with.
secondly to construct real objects ( 3d objects that is ) with non 3d
entitites is very difficult even in AutoCAD ( from 2.62 and lower ) since
autocad is NOT capable of doing anything with their 'fake' Z coordinate.
This was fixed in release 9 and the soon to be released release 10 of
AutoCAD has a vey powerful 3d EDITOR generator such as bezier curves,
Meshes and so on that you can construct by rotating 3d entities only
secondly extruded object are only used for flat type surfaces models such
as walls, vertical holoe cones and so on. anyway if you want more details
call AutoDESK and tell them that you want some more info on their release
10 of autoCAD.
by the way how will you construct the Redlotus, of the teapot from extruded
lines ? if you figure it out call AutoCAD and tell them ! so they won't
have to do release 11 🙂
You must have missed something – my AutoCAD module for InterChange *reads*
the old pre-release 9 extruded-and-elevated files, and *writes* only release
9 files. In this way, the module reads older files, and writes the only kind
possible, as you pointed out. As for your converter, how do you convert the
many-sided (>4) polygons in the RedLotus to the two and three-sided 3DFACEs
in AutoCAD format? Of course, as part of the InterChange system, we can
convert Sculpt, Forms In Flight and Turbo Siler objects to and from AutoCAD
then, too.
Why, Will I wanted to Import Amiga3D files to AutoCAD or to the DXF format
? the reasoning behind this 'tranlator' is to use AutoCAD or whatever
other 3d CAD program supports the DXF format to create 3D objects and have
them render/animated on the Amiga, a similiar Amiga ala IBM that is A targa
Board, mem , software will be about $6,000 dollars plus the IBM ( or clone
) computer ! plus a DXF translator for the software doing the rendering, an
board by SubLogic cost a 'meager' $4,999, a board by NTH cost another
'meager' $6,000 true these boards have palettes of 16 million colors, so
what, you can only have about one million on the screen. Now the translator
I HAVE does everything execept BLOCKS and TEXT ( this is a tough one to
translate ). And about your RedLotus question it is very similar to
POLYGONS and/or POLYLINES in AutoCAD execept they cannot be 'curved' just
'extruded'. For the record I am almost sure that all of the fancy 3D
objects in VideoScape were NOT done by hand in VideoScape that is with a
text editor ( come on ! ) and in the event they were done , whoever did
them is out of his/her mind or crazy by now…:).
