I have an A-1000 with a Sidecar. According to the Sidecar manual, Amiga
expansion memory can be added to the Sidecar. Does anyone have any experience
with this? Does it work properly? What memory boards can be used? Would this be
the way to go, or should I consider an Insider instead?
btw, does anyone else out there HAVE a Sidecar besides me? I have never seen
any discussion of it in this forum. Granted, it is an expensive add-on (but I
got it for a good price), but it has worked well for me. (I also have a 20MB
hard-card in the Sidecar, split between Amiga and PC)

Jim,
Supposedly…the expansion for the A500 (A501 I believe) can be used in
the SideCar. Other than that…CBM never brought out a memory expansion for
SideCar (nor did anyone else).

Get some sleep Don! There is no way the A501 works in the Sidecar. (Unless, of
course, you mean to design your own board and recycle the 501's chips).

I believe it was Hazy who said the A501 will fit the Amiga memory slot
under the drive. It doesn't fit in the MS-DOS slots.

I think you may be thinking of the second 512K board that was supplied with
the German designed A2000. It apparently fit the memory slot under the drive in
the sidecar. It was an 86 pin board that went into the coprocessor slot in the
A2000.

Whoops…just thought, maybe it's the 512K expansion card for the W.
German A2000 that fits in the co-processor slot rather than the A501 that will
fit the Amiga memory socket on the SideCar…or maybe the A501 and the 512K
Card for the WG A2000 are the same.

I had a SideCar for a few months, but used it only sparsely. It did work with
my Escort2 box, but everyone tells me that was a miracle. It does work with
the Insider from Michigan Software, everyone tells me. I just gave my SideCar
to a very special relative for Christmas, and he has no expansion memory, but
we plan to go with Insider when he can afford it.
Also, Brendan Pratt uses a SideCar with expansion memory. He lives in
Australia and isn't here often, but you might ask him.

What I know is that this memory board was done by a third party developper and
that it does not autoconfigure and so have problems with certains softwares.
Only a couple been done.
