Hi John,
Now that I've got my CIS rates corrected, I took your advice and started
looking for that navigator product. I happened to get the CSERVE magazine in
the mail today, so I figured there would be info there on it / how to get it. I
first saw an ad for NavCIS which mentioned a free version and a 30-day trial
version downloadable on CIS. I grabbed the main files and all posted support
files.
It turned out to be a different product from DVORAK DEV., but after
installing and patching all the u/g files, I could not get it to (apparently)
detect carrier on my Zoom V.32bis modem. Calls to them were not helpful. I
tried every init. string imaginable including the same as I successfully use
now with Hayes Smartcom LE for Windows. The program looked great and supposedly
can save you 75% on connect time, but I could not make it work.
So, I figured out where the CIM / CSNav forum was and tried to find out how
to get/buy that program. I did not accomplish that, but in the process, saw ALL
KINDS OF problems posted. Is this (CSNav) the program you were telling me about
? Do you have problems with it ? What modem do you use ? How do you buy CSNav ?
Does it support Zoom 14.4k Fax/Modem V42/V32.bis ?
Sorry to hit you with all these questions, but apparently I've gotten past
the "denial stage"<g> in thinking that I'm going to have to stop visiting the
forum for reasons of time, cost, etc…..but I just can't *stop* logging on
<bg>. Since I'm hooked, I guess I should figure out what I'm doing, and how to
do it most efficiently. Any help w/r/t the above would be greatly appreciated.

yup, CSNAV is what I use. It is still in pre-release form, so there are bound
to be bugs. But it's only $30.00, and you get a $10.00 usage credit and free
download. To buy it all you have to do is download it from the forum – you
will automatically be charged $30.00 to your account, and given a $10 usage
credit.
The only quirks I've noticed is that it is a bit slow (but still faster than
manual navigation), and deleting files takes time (bit longer than WinCim). I
have also experience very rare HMI protocol errors, but I've gotten those with
other packages, too, and don't know that it's related to CSnav.
I use a 486/66 (Ami Enterprise III) and a Suprafax 14,4 modem.
I'm not sure how the updates work, but apparently the authors have figured out
how to speed CSNav up, and will incorporate this in the next build.
I would suggest this software, especially if you use WinCim. The two programs
are able to share resources (filecabinet).

Hi John,
….long story short. Found it (before reading this), d/l it
(twice-problems) installed it. System disconnects immediately after logging in
– "can't access service"….not even E-Mail. However, I can run terminal
emulation which gets me on CIS, then take over manually ????? Tried all night.
I HATE communications software/hardware – mental block against it. Didn't know
it was beta. Any Ideas?

I can only think that you are not setting up the session settings or *.spf
correctly. Are you sure you have a script that will get you into any of the
services? I can e-mail a sample script to you if you want.

Just GO CSNAV to download it, (follow the instructions), and CIS will charge
your account $30, but give you $10 online credit. (You aren't charged for any
online time during the download.) The upgrade to the final release version will
be free.
The reason you see so many problems on their forum is that so many people are
having trouble figuring out how to set it up. The concept of multiple passes
and how to set them up correctly can be *very* confusing until you understand
how it works. The only documentation at this time is the Help file.

I use this exact modem with no problems whatsoever.
