– Reply to message #84508 (already scrolled) Bending is not something I have been able to do successfully. I finally did the project in Corel Draw and imported it, but there are lots of problems with that, as I am sure you know (duplicate vertices, too many verticies, etc.) But the animation is done now and it looks great. I will try your suggestion. Do you mean bend it in the shaper or in the editor? BTW. I recently purchased a PAR system from PYROS and it is awesome. Thanks to some Saturday tech support from Mr. Pyros hisself (thank goodness he's so busy now that he's in the office on Saturday!) I am up and running with 10 minute animations for about $3,300. Remember when the VTR controller by itself was that much. If you already have a decent PC, you can have broadcast studio (well, that may be stetching it a bit) video production for under $6500! Wow! What is this world coming to. It used to be that we had an angle on other companies because we could actually afford this stuff. Now, anyoen can put a 3D system in their studio and one small project pays for it.

>>bend or Corel… Doug, PMJI, but are you exporting text from Corel by first converting text-to-curves, then exporting as an .AI file? When I do this, I get very clean results with nary an extra vertex. (Must be welded in the shaper) I am a bending maniac in 3DS – just select the vertices in the Editor and bend away, making sure the bend cursor is aimed correctly. If you try this and have trouble, I'd be glad to help (and take some load off the Man <g>) PS: I think Greg said I got the next PAR after yours. I played with it some today and agree with your eveluation loudly. What a great time to be alive!

I was there when you called in! Greg and I are working on a project for the new Iwerks virtual reality game that is touted in the top right corner of the front cover of this month's Computer Graphics World. Actually, Greg is doing all the work, but I keep poking my nose in. I had mine under my arm and you called in to get yours. He can't seem to keep them in stock! Awesome quality for the buck. I would still go to Laser or direct to Beta for the larger clients, but PAR output is pretty dang neat. Yes, I converted to curves then outputted as an AI file. Corel 4.0 has three options and I selected AI88. I am going to experiment with the other two. Jack's suggestion of rotating each letter about the center of the circle is the easist though. Thanks for the input! Doug (back in the 3DS saddle again) Wolfgram

Just an additional note about Corel and xtra vertices… In my experience w/CorelDraw, sometimes I've gotten extra vertices, sometimes shapes have exported flawlessly. Experiementing w/the different export options doesn't seem to solve the problems when the extra vertices occur. The last time the problem occured was when I create 15 profiles for a dragon's head, at somewhere between 7 and 10 verts. per profile (memory error-can't remember exact #). When I imported it into the shaper, I was surprized to find that a point _intensive_ outline had been created around each shape. Took about a 1/2 hr to get rid of the extra polys (vert. count on the import was over 5500 points %^0). Anyone else had this problem and found out why this sometimes happens (using 3.0 myself)?
