#world map
6 messages in this thread
Has anyone run into a nice, clean photo/map of the world? Obviously something
that would map on a sphere would be the first choice, but an image that would
go on a circle could also be used (one sided). I would appreciate any leads.
Thanks
Hi Chris.
In the graphics developers fourm in the sub-dir called image maps. You'll will
find a map of the world. The file is called bigwrld.gif. The image-map of the
world is based on the clear world satalite data. There is not one cloud, so you
get the best detailed mape of the Earth.

Just so that you know in the future, CIS filenames are limited to 6 letters!
Aside from that, the info is great! <bg>

(oops, I accidentally sent this to the wrong person the first time – here's
another try)

The file is actually BIGWLD.GIF in LIB 8 (imagemaps) of GRAPHDEV.
The image is 2048x1024x256. For long to medium close shots of the earth, it is
spectacular, appearing to be the same image published in National Geographic a
few years ago. There are no clouds, but these can be added easily with the
earth cloud map (EARTHC.GIF) that Kouros Moghaddam uploaded to lib 5 here in
ASOFT.

Thanks. Actually I placed a querry there ae well and the original uploader
mentioned the same file to me. It is called BIDWLD.GIF. Resolution is
2048×1024. Too big for my 2400 modem, will have to retrieve it from work, but
can't wait to see it.
Thanks again for the tip!
Have you seen a displacement/bump map of the earth around anywhere? Pref. with
a matching color map.
Probably Viewpoint, right?
