#PAR-MCI Drivers

does anyone know what the current version of the PAR's MCI driver is? The
driver i have does not support recording (is it supposed? – would be very
helpful) and will not read files on my par slave drive.
also, is it possible to address the par drives while running NT?
one last question. Is there anyway to record sound while recording video with
the PAR/TBCIV. I know that the ani file does not support sound, but a driver
could be written which would allow simultaneous recording to two files which
could be joined in RAZOR PRO (avi file format). If the par mci drivers will
support recording, i could write the app myself.

This is some new features that I downloaded from the DPS BBS a few days ago:
MCI Driver software will be available for the PAR card in the second week
of February 1995. This feature allows you to interface to all MCI compliant
sound cards. Cards that contain true DSP technology will allow for better
performance. The MCI driver also allows the PAR card to be operated as a
device from any windows application that speaks MCI. Most importantly, the
MCI driver allows you to playback your animation files simultaneously with
audio.
AVI CODEC
AVI CODEC (Audio-Video Interleave) software for the PAR card will be released
in the second week of
February 1995. This software will allow you to use non-linear editing software
such as Adobe
Premiere 4.0, in:sync RAZOR, and other AVI aware programs to create edited
broadcast quality video.
Use the full power of these programs to directly edit your PAR animation
sequences.
RAZOR by in:sync
Razor is a software animation compositor and digital video editor for windows
which allows you to
combine digitized video clips, animation, stills, music and sound effects.
Razor has been designed
to directly work with the PAR card without AVI conversion. For further
information, contact in:sync

I have not tried it but I did here that a set of Windows NT drivers are in the
works for Razor Pro and the PAR, hopefully soon!!.

I already have a PAR, TBCIV and Razor Pro. the Razor Pro shipped with a PAR
MCI Driver. Is this the same MCI Driver that you are speaking of, or is there
another driver due out soon? The MCI driver i have seems to support playing of
Ani files but not recording, and will not read from the par slave drive.
Regarding AVI. are you saying that the PAR card will support avi files (i.e.
will I be able to create an AVI file directly on the Par drive with audio, or
will i have to transfer my files from the PAR to my system hard drive as an Avi
the way I do now with RAZOR?) What i am ultimately looking to do is to be able
to digitize video with sound into an avi file which can then be played back via
any number of windows methods.

No, the sound clips will be kept on the hard drive and the will be tied to the
*.ANI files from the PAR, similar to what you have with the *.AVI format know.
You will be able to convert the *.ANI and sound to the *.AVI format with Razor
Pro.
The problem with Razor Pro reading the PAR slave drive is in the MCI driver
and I have been told that it will be fixed with a new update. I do not have a
problem with reading/copying to the slave drive from the DOS software that
shipped with the PAR.
