This is a tentative report on activity at Tucson Show.
At this time things are just starting to happen. I am at the Executive Inn
which "officially" opens Friday, 2/3, but over half of the dealers have checked
in. Probably 20 dealers, mainly Europeans, Indians and Brazilians, are already
open.
Nothing new or super exciting, yet. The 1995 'Glossary of Mineral Species' by
Fleischer & Mandarino is out for sale. There are copies of Hey, 3rd Edition,
available as well.
There are a a lot of zeolites and related Indian minerals, including lots of
cavansites. There are some curious pale green (clay inclusion?) heulandites
with one dealer.

Additional info. on the 1995 Tucson Show:
The Fluorescent Mineral Society will hold its yearly "Tucson" meeting & mineral
swap at the Best Western _Executive Inn_, Drachman & Oracle Streets in the back
near the pool. The meeting will be Friday night from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM,
February 10, 1995. Meet other FMS members, trade specimens, and hear about the
plans for the Fluorescent Mineral Society's 25th anniversary to be held at the
1996 Tucson Gem & Mineral Show.
New book on fluorescent minerals will be available at this years Tucson Show
entitled: ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT AND FLUORESCENT MINERALS. The authors are Thomas
Warren, Sterling Gleason, Richard Bostwick & Earl Verbeek. The contents of the
book have to do with "Understanding, Collecting and Displaying Fluorescent
Minerals". The book will be available at the Williams Minerals booth on the
main convention floor.

Hi, folks–
I might add that the Fluorescent Mineral Soc. is looking for more members, and
would be happy to see visiting non-members at this meeting during the Tucson
show. Some of the society business might be of limited interest to a visitor,
but based on past experience there will likely be several fluorescent mineral
dealers showing their wares under ultraviolet, and lots of people eager to talk
about them and show off some. See FMSKIT.* in this forum's library for info
about the society and a membership application.

Wish I were there!
Folks, the Tucson shows just revving up are the world's biggest rockhound
jamboree by many standards, with a great deal of interest to mineral, fossil,
and gem collectors. This consists of a main show, in a week or so, and a lot
of satellite shows in a number of motels around the area. My TUCSON.ARC in the
forum library describes it somewhat, with a map of the relevant areas, that is
a couple of years out of date since I have had to miss the last show and this
one.

Now let me see, "about half the dealers have checked in…" "probably 20
dealers…" Hmm, thst must mean 40 expected. Gee, if that's all maybe I will
just sell my airline tickets and stay home. 🙂

For the number game:
As of 1/30, 80 dealers had checked-in but less than 20 were open. The rest were
playing tourist or setting up. As of today, 2/2, almost all of the 170 EI
dealers have checked-in and about half are already open.
