Folks, The forum section number 23, "Non Sequitur", is being renamed to "Ramblings". If you use automated software (TapCIS, OZCis, AutoPilot, Golden Compass, et al) make sure you update your section names. Ramblings will be used as a "catch all" section. Flame wars will be moved there as well non-topical dicussions (ie., religion, politics, and sex). Many folks have mentioned to me privately that they aren't crazy about the current crop of "hardware wars" messages. Rather than attempt to dissuade the inevitable, those types of message threads will be moved to Ramblings so that those who may wish to participate may do so and those that don't want be bothered with reading them in the other sections of this forum. The same goes with political discussions (ie., the Newt from Hell thread that's beginning to form). Any time you get people together based on a common interest (in this case, Desktop Video) discussion is going to eventually drift into other areas. You will make aquaintances and electronic friends here. You may wish to discuss things that are not pertinent to the charter of this forum (ie., politics), but you want to discuss them with others who share your vocational interests rather than going to, for instance, the Issues forum. That's fine, and that's what the Ramblings section is for. Some folks relish discussions that others may find combative. Some folks become annoyed at any discussion not 100% pertinent to the charter of the forum. Using the Ramblings section as I've described it is hoped that the forum can more equitably serve all users and personalities. Just remember that, in the heat of discussion, personal attacks will NEVER be tolerated. Comments? -sja
