#VISCA Vdeck problem

I am tring to connect the Sony Vdeck (CVD-1000) w/ VISCA to my PowerMac
8100/110 and want to use the VideoVision Studio to capture Hi8 video.
I followed the manual to put the VISCA control to system control panel and went
to Preferences in Premiere to set VISCA to device control. Everything seems
fine, even when I open the capture movie window and the light on the Vdeck
VISCA is on. But I won't to able control anything on the Vdeck from there. Not
even fastfoward or play.
Does anyone experienced that kinds of problem? Any HELP will be welcome

Ray, I have had similar problems with the Vdeck when running on GoldDisk's
Videodirector. After much confusion and frustration, I found that I had to
reset the Vdeck by physically unplugging the power cord for a few seconds. This
has always recovered a "hung" condition for me. Good luck!

I have no experience with the configuration that you are working with however I
might suggest that you look at your serial port settings to make sure that they
match what the V-deck expects for communications protocal.

You mentioned about the serial port settings and the communication protocal.
How can I know they have a correct setting?
I did drag the VISCA control to System Control Panel and have serial port
selected. I tried both modem & printer serial port but not working. In
Premiere, I selected device control to VISCA and I got the movie capture window
same as the user's manual show about VISCA. But just nothing work.
Anything similiar to this

Ray, I haven't ever used a PowerMac so I think that I will have to refer you to
the manual. There will be some things like "baud rate" or "parity" that
control how the serial data is output. The VISCA specification itself may
specify a baud rate like 9600bps so maybe looking at the manual for the deck
itslef may help as well.

You don't set baud rate and such on the serial ports of a Mac when using this
type of application, those functions are built into the driver. The problem is
that the VISCA driver was created before the PowerMac were released. The
solution is a new VISCA driver from Apple.
What Ray needs, as do I, is to find someone at Apple that even knows if a new
VISCA driver yet exists.
