#Mac or PC?
3 messages in this thread
Would you know which one is faster with working in 3D? Who renders faster? Many
say RISC is a screamer in 3D, is this true? I plan to work in 3D and I heard
that Lightwave 4 will be available for PC or Mac so all I really need to do is
choose the hardware. Thanks in advance.
Last I heard, LW 4.0 will be available for PC, SGI, Alpha and Amiga. I
haven't heard anything about a Mac or PowerMac version except "maybe after
the other ports".
The RISC Alpha workstations are the fastest LW engines available,
according to reviews in LWPro. The 100MHz Pentium is supposed to be
pretty speedy as well.
Hope this helps.

If you are thinking LW and have the bucks, get an ALpha 275 MHz or 330 Mhz
workstation. They beat the competition hands down in bang for buck and raw
speed. 128 bit bus to memory, 64 bit internal, two/four instructions per cycle
with up to 2 meg cache. One Alpha is about the speed of 2 Mips R4400 but about
1/2 the price. And, there are several Alpha vendors that bundle it with NT so
you don't have the price or work overhead of Unix knock-offs.
BTW, the Alpha native version of LW is supposed to be available in about a
month.
