I am looking for a video capture card that can capture full screen, say 640 x 480, from video source like VCR or TV with good image quality. I used to use ProMovie Studio that provided me a very poor image quality when I capture big size frames. Any suggestion ? Thanks

Mark, A few good options seem to be the Miro DC1, the Fast Movie Machine and the Intel Windows Capture Card. The November issue of New Media magazine has a good article on Windows Video Capture Cards. -John

Mark, Yes, stop by your local dealer and check them out or go to a newstand and look for magazines like Video Pro, New Media, Digital Video World, etc. Or just hang out here reading the messages. -John

And what's your intended use for it–multimedia presentations or output to tape? I'm currently using the Intel Smart Video Recorder Pro which doesn't *quite* do the trick for output to video, IMHO, but captures 640×480 still frames quite nicely, thank you. Tim Liebe

Try the Video blaster from creative… very good raw and compressed capture at 640 by 480 but not 30f/s you can only capture 30fps in 320 X 240 also all pics are 16.7 million colors in 16 or 24 bit modes…. I also have the spigot… its ok… will do the same except reliably capture full screen (640X480) infact when it first came out it was supposed to but they found a bug. that is why the full screen option is no longer highlighted… George Jacob@bny5.bloomberg.com

Last year, when I was shopping around for a capture card, NEW MEDIA's side-by-side comparison of it w/similar cards was *so* negative I avoided it like the plague… Have you tried the Intel Smart Video Recorder Pro, BTW? It's what I have now, and while it also can't capture 30 fps @ 640×480, it's pretty good… Best, Tim Liebe
