To Al and All.
Just wanted to tell everyone how thankful I am that Apple invented the
MacIntosh and promoted the GUI – and has been successful at it. Which in turn
forced the PC world to reconcile it's interface with people.
If not for this – 85% of us (the PC users of the world) would still be typing
command lines and wondering if there wasn't a better way to use a computer.
I have to say, I think this conversation has remained remarkably civil,
considering the religious content (now I know why mom always said – "Don't
discuss religion or politics."
The next computer I buy may be a Mac or it may be a PC(IBM) – or it may be a
SGI – in your hearts you know the point: it's just a tool. It's like a better
film, a quicker glue, a sharper razor blade – it's really just a pile of sand.
Not to get too estoteric – but it's the hands that guide it and the mind behind
it – the eyes with the vision.
Ansel Adams could take better pictures with a Brownie than my latest
SuperProgram gadget – but it doesn't stop me from dreaming – and trying again,
again, and again.

PSs – The people reading this have more in common with each other than 99.99+%

anyone chooses the tool he is most comfortable with. Anything wrong about
that?

Actually that's part of the point. The tool and the artist have to be
compatible.
Anyone out there read any of the "Inner Game…" books? They explore the
differences that very minute changes in mental attitude make to performance in
sports and music. Does anyone think that this might have application in
editing?
If you work with an editor that fights you every step of the way – screws up
your best efforts and trashes your vision – do you think that might affect your
work?
Ansel Adams could take better pictures than me with a Brownie – but he wouldn't
have settled for the results. He would have found better tools – rapidly.
On the other hand – Avid will do what suits them commercially. If that means a
PC version – they'll do it. If/When they do it – you can bet the result will
be stellar.

Whatever their results will be, if I don't like the way they are implemented I
will choose a different tool, just like your Ansel Adams: "Ansel Adams could
