#Pro Work in Windows
15 messages in this thread
Hi,
I'm looking for Elastic Reality for Windows users who are doing
'professional' projects with it.
Has anyone learned about ER in a class, film school, etc.?
Any stories of 'plain old Joes' who've leveraged ER into a career in special
effects?
Let me hear from you.

Actually, that is a real good idea. Attention Win ER users!! What are you using
ER for? We would like to know.
Please post here or e-mail us at 74774,1542 – we want to hear from you!

Chris,
Once, long ago when I was working on a different article, you hinted that
some new stuff was happening with ER under Windows. Can you point me at anyone
to talk to (hopefully in the next 40 minutes or so?)
Any film schools, etc., using ER?
TIA,

Chris,
The Art Center School of Design is supposed to be setting up ER
classes. Give them a buzz.
Er, make that Mark.

Wow! Cool, for once Im a step ahead of the best… 🙂
Also, I'd like to mention Center for Creative Studies (CCS) here in Detriot.
They're a rather reknown school, and have SGI and other platforms in their lab.
Keith Vreeland is one of their best design/computer instructors.
If ER hasn't given this school a copy or two, they should consider it. I'm
sure you dont have to ask any farther than Pasadena, about CCS.

Thanks for the pointer, but I needed someone who already had a class up and
going. I found one at UCLA, tho. Thanx anyway.

Well guys,
I am two weeks away from shooting my NYU thesis film, which is being funded by
Warner Music. It will be the first NYU student project to use
computer-generated special effects. I am using ER exclusively for morphing and
compositing. By the way, the tests that I have run have been excellent!! The
movie is called "Chameleon," and should be completed by the end of May. If
you'd like to know more, just let me know!!

Andrew,
Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help. Also, we'd be
happy to give your video whatever boost in circulation our resources can
provide.

Film…it's more than a picture
Jason,
Thanks so very much. Shooting begins two weeks from tommorow. Post production
will be from then to a screening date in the first week of May. If you would
like to see a copy of the script and/or some of the special effects tests that
I have done, please let me know, and I can modem them to you.
Thanks again!
Andrew
That would bee cool. We like to see it.

Andrew,
Tech support would love a script, and it would put us in a better position
to help should you need any tips from us. If you can spare a copy, please
mail one out – and autograph it too in anticipation of you going on to
much bigger and better!
Do I remember right…are you shooting on 16mm?

Jason,
Thanks so much. I will send a script out first thing Monday morning. Should I
just send it to the address in the manual?
To answer your closing question–no, I am not shooting on 16mm. I will be
shooting on 3/4" for three reasons: 1. FILM IS TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE.
2. I can only export my animation to video via the
PAR..
I wouldn't know where to get it transferred to film.
3. NYU Film hasn't caught on to the concept of
BETACAM SP yet. Oh well, I shouldn't expect so
much for $30,000 a year!
Thanks again, and let me know about the address.
Sincerely,
Andrew
Andrew,
The address in the manual will be fine. We'll look forward to receiving
the script!

Jason,
It's on the way. I am sending you via EMAIL an avi of a PAR animation that I
did as a SFX test for the movie. Check it out, and then imagine it with REAL
lighting and set design, instead of a desk lamp and white walls.
